Hereʻs something Iʻm playing with. These are yellow Thai sapphires with gold spacers, with a South Seas and Tahitian pearl. I may change the pendant though, itʻs not hanging right. Thatʻs why I like beading, because if you donʻt like something or it doesnʻt work, you can redo it. I have tied a strand of opal beads before, and it took me three times until I was satisfied. Good thing it was for someone else, because Iʻm never satisfied. You canʻt untie the way you can clip and restring

Thanks, again. I have different pics at different places in the forum of other pieces. this is what I did yesterday when I moved away from my new pearl passion for a little while. This is all whiskey quartz with vermeil findings. The quartz really is 2 shades, but very pretty! Also this is an opal and Tahitian necklace with 14k beads. These are Australian jelly opals and the quality of the Tahitian isnʻt as nice as some, but they look good together. 4mm opals, 12mm(?) pearl. The silver grey color is the more accurate, but it does go darker in some light. Thanks for the support

Today's fun part 2. I got a day off and I went to town. The other pieces are on the gems & pearls thread. The tourmaline is watermelon, large graduated, that I got in NYC. The turquoise is sleeping beauty mixed with sunstone. Fun, fun, fun.

Thanks everyone! Once again I was inspired by PG to get in there and get to work. The opals and pearl sold this summer, I'm going to try and some more because I love them together.

You might have to move it to your mile long "to practice" list. For some of us it takes a little time. But your fingers won't loose the itch so best to get started.

Go for it Nathan! One thing I love about stringing is that you can redesign on the spot, try things out, or even just change your mind. Before I decided on what stones to use with my pearls (I think they're on the other pearls & gems thread) I tried about 4 different kinds and colors and then decided on the sapphires. I also fiddled around with how many sunstones, patterns etc. However, I am getting ready to know which I haven't done for a while, and I would LOVE to learn metal work, but I think my husband would make me move out. (nah, he's pretty supportive)

I really find attractive what you said: that if anything goes wrong, just take it apart and do it again. Ever since I was about six years old I have been designing jewelry on scraps of paper, napkins etc. And every one had to be changed about ten or twenty times before I was satisfied, so doing it myself seem to be, to quote Spock, "logical".
Next time I'm in a civilized country I'll look into buying some supplies.

I've been doing that all my life. You're the first person I've ever heard say that! This is definitely the place. New idea? Draw a picture. Not happy? Change it. I even got in trouble once for drawing on my desk. (Umm third grade I think.) The teacher told me to remove the design with 'elbow grease'. Then I got in trouble for looking under the school sink for the 'elbow grease', having of course never heard of it and taking her literally.
Oh and BTW, Capt. Kirk asked Mr. Spock once, "Sure you won't change your mind?"
Spock's answer? "Is there something wrong with the one I have?"
