Todayʻs fun

LOL I loved your story about elbow grease :D ! I'll have to tell all my friends that one.

Oh and BTW, Capt. Kirk asked Mr. Spock once, "Sure you won't change your mind?"
Spock's answer? "Is there something wrong with the one I have?"

Hilarious! I can't get enough of Spock! Glad to know I'm not alone in my sense of humor!

Next time I'm in a civilized country I'll look into buying some supplies

PM me for some reliable on-line sellers. The Big Island isn't exactly shopping heaven, and other than wonderful opportunities like NYC, I rely on the net and have learned a lot about how to get good and reliable products. I'm sure there are others here as well that could steer you in the right direction! :D

Ok why not just post the list about reliable places to buy? About 6 months ago I purchased a DVD from Rio Grande on stringing pearls. Other than a few jewelry supply houses that i trust I don't know about other sources or for that matter all the little ins and outs of beading (as if i need another thing to do). I have over 40 strands of some really exquiste gem stone strands i've collected over the years, and I've always threatened to get busy and string them into something. This lowly beaders club is making me dream of stringing things at night. I need to get going or I'll lose more sleep.

Dear Aggie:
Don't loose a moment's sleep over it! First, watch your DVD. Second wait 15 minutes before you go to sleep and solve your stringing dilemma's.
Why 15 minutes? Because research tells us we forget the last 15 minutes before we fall asleep.
But you can seriously program yourself to solve problems while you sleep. Your mind does need rest from all the input around you but it continues to process. So, pick what you want to process and go gently to sleep, secure in the knowledge of your own basic goodness and in the knowledge of your high skill level and let your thoughts swirl around in your dreams bringing you new and delightful designs to produce in the dawn light.

Not just knotting.

Bali silver, 14k, Tahitian baroque. Darn these pearls that won't stay the same color!

That is a delightful piece, LOVE the pearl! It sure does change colors!

Here's the latest. I'm scrambling now because I've started a booth at a new farmer's market in town. The first week was great. I sold the lavender pearl's below and the enhancer and took an order for earrings to match the enhancer. The enhancer has a large keshi, one of the lavender pearls and a Tahitian keshi, as well as blue topaz, sapphire, moonstone, andalusite, tourmaline, apatite, peridot, and I'm not sure what all - it's kind of a mutt. I also sold the pair of Tahitian pearls I had. Great start. This past weekend it was a lot of interest, mostly in the piece above, but only sold 2 pairs of earrings. So the booth, keeping up with the website & etsy, and a lot of networking is keeping me busy. And this forum, love to be here. So here's what I've got going.

And finally strung the South Seas goldens. Yummy, yummy. 2mm 14k beads between and 14k toggle clasp. The pearls feel like silk to the touch, and although they are golden, there are al these crazy pink tones as well.

Mmmm, they look so lustrous and smooth, I'd like to reach out and touch them. The gold beads are very effective.

Way to go, Cheryl! Very lovely pieces! I love the 2mm spacers also!

How big are the keshis?

I always forget that coin thing for scale. The keshis range from 5mm by 5mm to 9mm by 5mm.

2mm spacers are my new "knots." They just lift and separate, like the old commercial. Those are 2mm silvers on the lavenders on the previous page that has the enhancer, and gold between the 6mm boulder opals that I have. Tried to post those but the shrinkage took out all the fire and does not do them adequate justice.

yes

yes

Yes, I believe I see pink along with the smooth golden keshi. It's beautiful, Sheryl.

<sigh> One more thing to desire! ;)
Great job. Thanks for posting the photos.

I am about to create a strand of pearl necklace for the first time and I'll be using ball spacers as well. This may be a silly question but do you mind telling me if you still knot first and pull the spacer bead over the knot? Or you go without knotting at all? Also what thickness thread do you use?

Hi Kelly,
I don't use thread unless I am only using pearls, I use beading wire, but one that is labeled "soft." I generally use about a .012 wire for a necklace like that. I don't want the metals or stones to cut or wear through the thread. I don't knot under the gold balls but I do knot at the end of the strand before I put the clasp on, so that if the clasp should disengage, the pearls won't go flying away. I believe knotting was/is done primarily to keep the pearls in place should the strand break. Beading wire rarely breaks, in fact I don't think I've ever had that as a problem. However, I have had clasps somehow slip their crimped moorings. Oops. I don't know if these are the best ways or not, just how I do it.
:)
