First pearls

The price of pearls is dependent on multiple factors. One reason for a lower price point at Augustus might be their closer proximity to the source. At any rate, they are certainly reputable and professional.

I too have bought from Sven - who is a member of PG as well. I've been lucky in some of the auctions and have also bought an exquisite piece of carved mammoth.

I've got my eye on a few pieces of his now. I've just got to figure out which one now. Do you have a photo of the ivory? There's a local seller of carved mammoth ivory in Australia and they've got some absolutely beautiful pieces.

Haha same here!

I was outside and I snapped a new photo of my tahitian. image.jpg

I got my new pearls today! The GSS bracelet looks to feminine on me I think, I'll have to think of something else I can do with it. I asked Jeremy to drill the pearls with a larger hole for me so I've got a few options. Any ideas?
The tahitian is huge! And the colours are beautiful, Jeremy has picked well for me.

Ups, sorry. I missed that. I need to get back to Denmark before I can help you there. Hopefully I'll remember once the jetlag has worn off :) It's a Garnesh. For some reason I really wanted one. He even has little tiny dots on the fabric of his trouses. Really amazing work.

Matt,

Your new pearls are handsome! The goldens will show up better against your arm with a dark color to contrast, perhaps leather, perhaps silver with a dark patina? Unfortunately it's well past my bedtime, or I'd hunt down some examples for you. I am totally in favor of "Man Pearls!"

No worries, can't wait to see, it sounds very intricate.

Thank you! I've made a necklace with the largest pearl, it's more of a champagne colour and I've paired it with a smaller pair of similar looking darker golden pearls on brown cotton, I made the clasp with a pewter anchor.
That leaves me with 17 more pearls to use haha, can't wait to see any suggestions :).

Your Tahitian makes me smile. What a cutie of a pearl, between the colorful band and the perky drilled top.

Thanks, I really like it as well. I was actually hoping the little nub would dissapear with drilling but I actually don't mind it now.

I just gott this photo back today, the pearl isn't in focus but it gives an idea of how I look wearing it :)

I'd better give the photographer credit. http://www.facebook.com/abrahamdesouza

Thanks for sharing your great pearls! I love your new Tahitian - gorgeous colors!

It looks great on you. Seriously, even what appear to be defects can become little quirks of charm over time. At this rate, you could be the male spokes-model for pearls!

Beautiful photo of you and pearl. I would not call the nub a defect. I think it's part of the charm. I had a similar smaller Tahitian which did lose the nub upon drilling and I was sad it had lost it's sweet signature top. Wear your pearls in health.

Thanks very much guys, I'm hoping that when I get some more photos back there will be a good shot of the pearl. I have definitely grown to like the nub on the top, it does add to the character of the pearl. It's amazing how much larger the new pearl is considering it's only gone up 2 sizes.

FAB!!! on the rest of the goldens - how about a leather bracelet with, say, 3-5 of them, with the leather knotted in between each pearl? or even with something like washers or hex nuts knotted in between, something industrial to contrast with the natural pearliness of the pearls?

Great suggestion! I've actually just made something like that, but with cotton rather than leather. I've run out of (lost) leather and the store I used to buy it from has shut down I've just discovered. Anyway, I'm quite pleased with how it looks.
I've also put the new tahitian on the necklace I had the older one on and I've made a bracelet with the old one. The pearls don't look to flash in this lighting sorry. I'll make sure I get some photos soon with my camera rather than my iPhone.
