First pearls

That looks to be quite an aquarium; love the carpet anemone, the clown fish and the pearls ... thanks for sharing :)

Ha! There can't be too many when they are as beautiful as yours are! :)

Enjoying the pictures! There can never be too many.

I like the organic shape of your souffle and how you decided to set it in leather. Very cool!

Thanks very much guys, I really am thrilled with them. And I am already planning my next purchases. I want a big tahitian circled pearl and I am thinking a tie pin with a freshadama and matching cufflinks if that's possible to be made up. I might ask Jeremy when he's back from Hong Kong. What size pearl do you think would be good for a tie pin and cufflinks?

Hmm, I think you'd want large pearls for cuff links or they won't be sen at all. I gave my husband a pair of SSP size 10-11. Even bigger would have been fine. So freshadama might not be the best answer here.

If the size will be a problem I might just get a tie pin then, I wouldn't think that woukd need to be too large would it?

I had missed this thread and Jeremy mentioned that he'd found a pearl for a fellow Aussie when we were at the show. Had to have look through the forum to see what he was talking about. lol
I do like your innovation ! The watch strap was a great idea lol I don't know if you know how to do a sliding knot clasp but if you are enjoying working with the leather it's quite a good way to finish off a bracelet or necklace. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2GhB8k7vBw There are a hundred different youtube videos that are great for learning about all the various knot clasps. I grabbed one at random...it has an odd very dramatic beginning that seems completely bizarre given it's a tutorial on how to tie a knot. But, these youtube tutorials are great and there are several different versions of the sliding knot.

Jeremy mentioned he found a pearl that he thought I would like at the show, haven't heard anything else but I'm waiting patiently :)

Thanks very much :) the tahitian pearl actually has a couple of little sliding knots to keep it together and I have another bracelet that I've done with sliding knots. I'm trying to learn how to tie nicer looking ones though. I need to find a source for rolls of leather cord I think.

I just saw this ad on my Facebook, looks like a tahitian pearl to me.

Cool. Looks that way to me, too. I think this look will gradually get more and more popular as time goes by. That's as it should be - you don't want it to be a fad that comes and goes. :)

I saw some cufflinks he made a while ago posted on the forum, they were very good looking, they had I think a round 9mm tahitian on one end and a 12mm round on the other.

I know what you mean about neat knots..takes a bit of practice and for the leather to be supple. I've had good luck with the faux suede .. nice colours and washable. I've ordered leather from Over the Rainbow , beads , cord etc as they are in Australia. Heather is really nice.

Thanks very much for the advice, I've been looking at trying waxed cotton. I've had trouble getting the leather knits to stay tight however after swapping the band to waxed cotton I've not had that problem.

This is the pearl Jeremy picked out for me in Hong Kong, it's a bit over 15mm by 19.4mm. It's beautiful. I've also gotten some golden south sea baroques in the PP clearance sale, I'm also considering getting the white ones and mixing them together however I'm not sure what to do just yet.

He picked well didn't he? There's one blemish on the back of the pearl but that won't really get seen. I'm very excited to get my hands on it.

You have landed in the Pearl King's hands and we are along for the ride! Welcome to our small, obsessed club!

Thanks guys, I really can't wait to get it either. I am most definitely addicted.

I've found Augustus Collection and they seem to have a fair few good looking round GSS at a lower price point than a lot of other vendors, is there a reason for that? They seem very reputable from searching them on the forum.
