I did not see this strand in person at Christie's because preview was on monday / tuesday morning and I arrived tuesday afternoon, but I attended to the sale that took place on tuesday evening and I took photo and it is worth story telling ... that was an incredible sale indeed.
I will follow the chronology, so at the moment we are tuesday afternoon at Sotheby's preview, more photos of more pearls later

It came from the same grandmother who insisted to everyone who would listen (as well as those who wouldn't) that the big garnet in the ring she passed on to me was a ruby. So I guess I shouldn't be surprrised Still lovely pieces, though...

I was at Christie's in Amsterdam to have a look at the orange/pink diamond before it's auction and saw the 7 strand natural pearl strand and the director of Christie's informed me that the pearls belonged to a Dutch owner.

Huge 19,5 mm log drop natural pearls that are detachable from the diamonds cluster .

the hammer price reached 5 times the highest estimation.
All pearls went very very high, the selection was really exquisite.
