Tahitian pearl baroque rope necklace

Can anyone give me an idea what a 49 inch 12mm tahitian baroque pearl necklace would cost?

So much depends on the quality of the pearls, that that is hard to say. But if it requires combining the pearls from three 18 inch necklaces to make a long rope, I expect the price would reflect that.

Those large pearls would also make that rope quite heavy.

Just guesstimating, but I'd say for good quality pearls assuming you're paying retail that something like that would be in the range of $2500-$3000, ish.

But as both Pearl Dreams and Red mention, it could vary significantly if you're looking to move up or down in pearl quality as well as what vendor you choose to go with, and at that size I'd echo what Red says that it would be a fairly heavy rope.

A very good quality 12 mm rope of that length takes 3 strands of pearls. So if you look at the retail price for a 12mm strand of pearls and x3 that will give you the price. Lower quality would have to run about 3k and excellent quality..well that's getting pretty pricey. One way to lower the cost is to move to a slightly graduated strand of 10-12 and to vary the quality.

Immediate first impression is that they may be dyed freshwater pearls. Get more photos. It would be good to see more of the pearls closer up.

What else is the seller listing? That may be a clue.

Are they coming from China? Probably FWP.

They are selling more pearl jewelry of various types, and from the U.S.
These are the only photos, should I pass this up?

I suspect that Pearl Dreams is correct, and those are dyed freshwater pearls, and not Tahitians. I would pass on them.

I'm sure they are dyed drop shaped freshwater pearls. Tahitian pearls are heavier, you won't see such wavy thread like in that necklace with strung Tahitian pearls.

Not saying these pearls aren't attractive, but I agree with the others, these are dyed freshwater pearls. You will have more blue, aqua and purple tones with these pearls. As for value, in the low $100's, definitely not $1000's.

Sadly it is common for eBay sellers to misrepresent freshwater pearls as the more expensive akoya, Tahitian and south sea pearls.
