Thanks for posting the pics. I just won my second competition with the Bysantine bag. I was docked points for not lining it in Linnen as well. Other than that. Only One question about the pearls. and their shape... other than that It was really good!

Thanks. Yep. Linign it will not take it to long. I am going material shoping for another project this week and picking up a Natural, unbleached linnen for a lining should not be to hard.

Couple of my Favourites

Hi All,

The first photo is of a pin/brooch thing that is called a Durbar. When I first bought it I had planned to have it made into an enhancer but so far I haven't had the courage to alter it. Maybe I will one day but for now it lives on as it started out.

The second a Platinum and Pearl Ring. I really like this but the pearl is small but looks like either a natural or a keshi pearl to me. If anyone knows for sure please let me know.

While Bored this holiday weekend, I pulled out some of my pearls and undertook a small project to make a version of the Pearl Netted Necklace form the Portratit of Lady Elizabeth Brydges.

Gorgeous Ash! Getting the graduation on a piece like that so it lays right is quite a chore. I love the bag too. Do you have to use renaissance techniques to create these pieces?

After looking again at your model, it looks as though the thread forms a junction rather than double threading through the pearl. I like your design better. But it brings up an interesting design point that I was working on this weekend. I have seen double drilled coin pearls (now that I consider them with your design, they would make a fine junction, but I digress) but I've never seen pearls double drilled in an "X" fashion. I was mentally designing a pearl cross this weekend and I wanted to metal. The only way I could imagine accomplishing it is to drill the pearl in an X, however, the drill holes would have run along side each other rather meeting in the middle. That same drill would work well with your design. We had discussed "V" drilling with the "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" necklace, which I have seen pictures of many years ago, but haven't seen since. I think that would be a wonderful design drill as well. Anybody out there listening? Hmmm, thinking as I'm typing, double-drilled buttons would service my purpose.

Thanks! BTW, I am the one wearing the necklace in the pic, Hubby took the pics. I edited it so it would fit withing pearmeters of the list. I love my New camera!

I used what I had in my Pearl stash to try to get it to lay right. I need graduation in pearls 4, 5, 6, 7 mm but I did not have that. so I improvised I do hope to bea able to get some rounds in various sized t redoit one day and make an exact replica of that piece.

I did go back through the pearl at the "Joint" I used a basic netting technique I use for my Chalice covers. (Not sure of Technique I have found no "proof" its "period" or not but its functional.. is not like the beaders had samplers as embroidery guilds did...)

As for the bag yes I used the "couching method" for that bag it was a competition piece, its completely hand sewn. with period hand sewing techniques as well.. some are different than today not many but a couple.

I cheated though I tied off each Pearl and Bead individually then went back through and couched it down. All you see is the couching.

Good Luck with your piece!!! Sounds like it will be a fun one! Now you got me thinking,, But I have a FWP edged Chalice cover to finish.
(I have found embroidered chalice covers but not beaded edged ones however but they are functional, they do keep the bugs/dust/fuzzies out of your drink!)

Chalice covers! How romantic! It's been absolute years since I've heard anyone talk about couching. You're quite talented. Re: my cross, I'm going to have get one of these fine drillers out there to accomodate me. Double drilled buttons aren't going to work, unfortunately.

Wow Ash- Love the bag! Have you thought about doing something completely beaded? No fabric showing whatever?

I used to have fantasies about beading this HUGE Victorian-esque carpet bag that I had for years, it was covered in this gorgeous rose pattern that was very suited to beading (perfect template to work off of), but alas- I am not as motivated as many others here

Hi All,

Still had the "itch" to bead so I made my first Pearl Tassel... It's Okay. I now know what things I want to change for next time. Fun Experimental piece.

I have also included a picture of my Blue silk Pearl edged Veil. It was on top of the Pile of garb I am going through to wear or not to wear this weekend so I added the Pic of it...
