Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

I suppose no one would propose that the quality is the same, albeit the difference would be largely "under the hood" with the four-year nacre growth. Unless the Chinese are doing that too...
I was so surprised when they said the pearls grew for 4 years! Makes them even more special than they already were to me.

I wonder if that's always been the procedure or if culturing time has changed over the years. I wasn't quick enough to think of asking that during the live event.

Steve: I doubt that most Chinese pearl farmers are letting their pearls grow for 4 years. However, the two necklaces that I bought from Kojima and Pacific Pearls have incredibly thick nacre and great color, so at least one Chinese pearl farmer is letting them grow for a long time. Sarah and Fuji seem to pick the best of the best. These two particular necklaces could easily be mistaken for real Kasumi pearls. I have real Kasumi pearls to compare them with, and I've done a lot of staring at them.

HAHAHHA! I just got an e-mail from Jordyn at PP. I was backup for a few Kasumi pearls, and I was actually relieved that someone bought them out from under me. Well, the jokes on me. I just found out I got K-24, which was Hisano's favorite pearl. I had to go back and watch the recorded video to remember what it looked like. It was very colorful and smooth, with the hammered effect, but no lumpy bumps or dimples. 11.5 x 12.2 It had no bad side, so I want it set so I can see the whole pearl. I'm thinking it would look great in the Wishbone pendant like Hisano put her special pearl in. Either that, or the "I am a Pearl" ring at Kojima. What do you think?

Oh, thank you, pearlgirl12! I just love all the vintage pieces I have from Kojima/Pacific Pearls. You just never know what might surface from their archives. Here’s another coral piece that Sarah put together while in their Hong Kong office several years ago. Worn with a baroque blue Akoya necklace from Takahashi, and earrings I bought at a glass workshop in Japan and added blue Akoya to.

I love an eclectic mix. In fact, it was a necklace from Kojima 2 years ago that helped to broaden my pearl horizons. It combined Tahitian pearls and keshi with tiny vintage tuquoise, lapis, coral and Nepali brass and silver beads. These are drop Tahitians from PP, and my tribal-looking medley from Kojima.

Well, there's no wrong answer to that, but I did think the wishbone looked great.

Ha ha, it was meant to be! I saw your comments earlier about how you were feeling proud on showing restraint....I didn't! :) I would suggest you get the wishbone pendant. You already have a couple of amazing rings and I think the wishbone would be unlike any of your other pendants.

They do look great, and the presence of ripples, swirls and hammering obviously requires a minimum nacre thickness. Yesterday no one asked about the future at Seiwa Pearl, whether children are involved, etc. but it seems Sarah is rightfully hedging her bets. If indeed there are ripple farmers in China dedicated to longer aging times then they will need to seek a higher price, and distinguish themselves in a post-Kasumi world with special branding. Ripple-dama?

I just found out I got K-24
Congratulations! I watched with the idea of getting something basic for our first Kasumis in advance of Pearls by the Bay (my interest in pearls originates with naturals) and was fortunate to get the K2 pair below, for dangle earrings. I looked at PP and would be happy with a simple stock finding such as their threadeds, without additional stones or colors as my wife is most comfortable with simplicity. Welcome comments.

Congrats! Those are lovely. I purchased a set of SOC baroque pearls and had them set in the harmony setting. It has a small diamond but it's a very simple, easy to wear setting....not at all blingy. They are a smidge over 10mm so yours will be a little larger for context. The Kasumi pearls remind me a bit of SOC with the baroque, colorful pearls.

I also have a pair of freshies with the eternal setting which is just plain gold. It's also beautiful and you won't go wrong with either.

Those SOCs are intensely striking and the setting is appropriate. Eternal and Harmony will definitely be included among the final options!

Many thanks!

Meant to ask if anyone here has acquired Kasumi Keshi over the years that we could see? There were none on offer yesterday but Jeremy confirmed they exist.

Aaakkkkk… I can’t keep up with all the posts!

BWeaves, that’s always been one of my favorite pendants of your’s.

Great choices Steve and Tiger! The drops are so pretty!

Pearlgirl12, I remember those necklaces! I just love the way Kojima pieces are so creatively mixed.

Steve, I have 3 different Japan Kasumi keshi necklaces. Two are included in the pic I happened to take today, and I’m also attaching a pic from the past of two of the keshi necklaces together.

Japan Kasumi Mezurashi all from Kojima: A large purple Japan Kasumi pearl that lives in a gold net from Takahashi because I don’t want to drill it. The pearl has a vivid purple on one side, and blends into a blue purple on the other side. A smooth Kasumi pearl I chose at one of the Ruckuses and had Sarah set it in a wavy band ring. A Kasumi keshi necklace, and an Ikecho keshi long necklace.

JEG! "Ask and thou shalt receive." How impressive! Those keshis do not disappoint.

The shorter strand of larger pearls calls to mind our natural Pteria (Ptimes Ptwo) strand we will be bringing to Pearls by the Bay.

The purple round begs removal from its net from time to time for a little attention...

Wow, you all are fabulous!

BWeaves: Emeralds and pearls, meant for you! Autumn Leaves got away from me LOL, and got to the right place, and THANK YOU for keeping that feather pearl pendant ... you saved me from buying it ... and it belonged in that stack! Congratulations on K-24 .. I vote "I Am Pearl" how perfect for a perfect Kasumi pearl :)

I managed to get onto the Live Event after a huge fight with 3 devices and Facebook. Took me a while to figure out that I already had a YouTube account, and how to log in .... Google was sending me frantic "Potential Hacking" security warnings on 3 devices before I got it sorted out LOL. All 3 screens showed different and slow connections, I could see prices on one, comments on one, good photos on one, all three together on none. My screen name was different. I still manage to buy pearls LOL and it was so fun. What an honor to meet Mr. Yoneguchi, and hear tales of 4 year pearls and glass carp!!!!!

PP is going to send me the K-24 Kasumi pearl unset, so I can decide if I have buyer's remorse or not. Since it was Hisano's favorite pearl, and she called it Mezurashi, I suspect I'm going to love it. I'm also going to try to remember the word Mezurashi.

Cathy: Yeah, I was fighting with my devices, too. I'm not a Facebook person, so I wasn't sure if it was me screwing up on how to sign on. I'd never done YouTube before, so I had to set some stuff up on that before I could join. I think I liked the YouTube video better than the Facebook video, once I got the hang of it. I knew it was you, even though your "handle" was different. I was surprised that Hisano didn't know it was you, but she was very busy, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

If you change your mind about my feather pendant, let me know. Hahah. It would fund other pearls. I really liked that group of 5 Kasumi pearls you bought. I can't wait to see what you do with those. They were gorgeous.

Clothing shopping with Greg and Dad today. Greg NEVER wants to shop for clothes, so this is a big event. Dad sold clothes for a living, so he's all excited about being Greg's stylist today. Dad loves to shop.

Today I'm wearing my white gold Mikimoto huggies. The lonely yellow gold earring is still at the Mikimoto workshop in New York waiting for a matching pearl. Dad said he'd pay for the new earring, which I thought was sweet. The Hamantaschen pendant from Pacific Pearls on a white gold cable choker. The design is my own, and a local jeweler made it for me. There are 3 loops on the back which the cable goes through, so the pearl looks like it's floating in front of the cable or perhaps just balancing on the diamond. There's a triangle shaped hole in the middle of the pearl, so I had to fill it with a diamond instead of poppy seeds.

The hamantaschen pendant is ridiculously beautiful. That last picture really shows the luster very well. You probably mentioned before, but how did you come up with its name?

I think one of the most fun things for me to do during the lives is try to figure out which ones commenting are pearl-guide members that I know. I know a few and have a good guess at a few. Usually when people start talking about what they're wearing gives a clue and then confirmation is when I get to see the pearls on here!

A hint for anybody wanting to play the game and figure out who I am.. my handle on pearl-guide is part of my name in real life 🙂

Also - did yall see the most recent fb post about the upcoming event at Takahashi and they had those ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS goldens? I actually had to enlarge the picture so I could see them even better. I as of yet do not own a golden south sea pendant so I think one of those may be a purchase for me!

In honor of the feeding frenzy at the shark tank last night, I mean the Kasumi PP Live event, I'm trying to remind myself why I did not need to buy any Kasumi pearls last night. Luckily, pearl lovers were so fast to buy, that I didn't have time to think about it.

Kasumi earrings with amethyst, and Kasumi Autumn leaves pendant from Kojima. The colors on this pendant are amazing, and the surface is smoother than most Kasumi pearls. It has a ruby bail. I don't think I really appreciated how special this little pearl (11 mm) was until last night.

The shorter ripple necklace is from Kojima. The longer ripple necklace is from Pacific Pearls (11 to 14 mm). The necklaces are Chinese freshwater pearls, but they look just like the Kasumi pearls at a much lower price point. Sarah has a Chinese ripple necklace like mine on the Kojima website, but it was mistakenly put on the bracelets page. It's to die for. The pearls are bigger than mine. They're 13-16mm.

Absolutely Erotochromatic! Now...just need to translate this word to Japanese!

Asked AI and got this:

Certainly! In Japanese, the word for “erotic” is エロティック (erotic) and “chromatic” can be translated as クロマチック (chromatic). Combining these two concepts into one word, we could create a neologism like エロマチック (eromachikku). This new word fuses both meanings and sounds natural in Japanese. It captures the essence of both ‘erotic’ and ‘chromatic’ in a single term. Remember, newly created words gain meaning and acceptance through their use in communication, so feel free to start using エロマチック in appropriate contexts!

So, Eromachikku sounds good to me! ;)

Thanks so much, Steve!

That pearl and setting make such a unique necklace BWeaves!

I have your number lary007! And you probably have mine, too, given the purchases.;) That Live Kasumi event was fantastic!!!

Wow, that teaser from Takahashi… so many choices! I can’t wait to see what they decide to show. So, I’m posting some Akoya from Takahashi. A rope that was made of two temp strands that are from my visit to the Takahashi office in October. Worn with turquoise and pearl earrings from Hawaii, and a turquoise station chain I put together.

Another gorgeous combination jeg! I think white pearls go so well with turquoise or aquamarine. There's just something about the mix of that blue and pearly white.

I've always loved a good Hamantaschen, just didn't know you could wear one! The luster on that is crazy.

BWeaves, I especially like what is going on with the pendant. It took me a minute to realize it was one pearl with many personalities.

Yup, the waters were rough. I wasn't planning on purchasing, but I'm finding myself more and more drawn to unusual/irregular pearls lately. Maybe it's a natural progression from round, smooth, white and lustrous to funky shapes, textures, colors, and luster. I saw the necklace on the bracelet page and was tempted, but right now I have trouble getting ready in a reasonable amount of time because... I can't decide which pearls to wear! I never thought I'd have so many options- for the longest time I had imitations, and then finally a strand of Akoyas, and that was it. I thought I was set for life. But I learned there is no such thing as pearl monogamy. I am polypearlamorous. Or maybe polypearlicious.😉
