Great to know. Do these oyster grow faster than other oysters? Their colors sure look intriguing.

the average size of Pinctada

Very interesting, could you by any chance take the exact mass of a round pearl as well as diameter? grams for the mass and millimeters for the diameter would be great. As to be precise you might be able to take a mass up to 0.001 grams if you go to a Jeweler when you go back to Paris.
I am curious about the composition of the pearl.

average size

Round 5.1 mm = 0.23 g
0.12 g = 3.9 mm
3.1 mm = 0.09 g
0.03 g = 2.6 mm

Oval: 2.5 mm = 0.08 g

button: 3.1 mm = 0.16 g
Color button: 4.1 mm = 0.17 g

Baroque: 3.2 mm = 0.12 g

Sorry for the delay just arrived from the province.
mmmh, the density is not constant, the above mentioned data for the round gave ρ∆ -10.2% +60.8% I think it may come from the accuracy of the tools used (caliper and weighing scale)
This said thank you very much for the information, the ρ of Pinctada maxima is roughly only 76% that of Pinctada maculata.

Please recheck if this measurement is correct (maybe a typo...)
3.1 mm = 0.09 g the mass is really high, shouldn't it be closer to 0.06?

bonjour Cyril
yes sorry it is well: 3.1mm = 0.6 g
woww :)

Oh wow... what a great find! Congrats to your friend, too.

Do post more of what you found.
