Hi Everyone! It’s been a long while since I did a proper craft project posting and I wanted to share the latest one as I’ll be bringing it to the Ruckus with me. Introducing the Origami Star Crane & Flower series!

I’ve made origamis when I was younger, and started making them again when I came across this crazy fun video showing Japanese med students qualifying for surgery residency by making tiny cranes and sushis etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVSCTOIXBUs

It let me down a rabbit hole of making smaller and smaller origamis. I ended up liking stars, cranes, and flowers the most and made batches of them.

And one day realized I should incorporate pearls into this project. Here are some WIP pictures. Idea generation and testing out the layouts, placing the pieces in a silicone mold and slowly dripping resin drop by drop onto the components, making sure all are covered but the top surface of the pearl remain completely exposed.

I had to dig up the piece before resin was fully cured so I can trim off the excess since I didn’t like the look of the borders exceeding the paper stars. So I timed my resin sessions, and trimmed the edges with a tiny super sharp cuticle scissors under magnification. It was a bit nuts but I absolutely loved the outcome.

I wanted to make EVERYTHING into that style lol and idea generation went a little overboard.

In the end, I made my soufflé ring, and a set of keshi cufflinks for my boyfriend.

Not all pieces involved pearls so I’ll keep them short. I made a few more pieces with the star halos (my “poor woman’s halo”) and a bunch with just pure coated paper origamis.

This is a London blue topaz stone in a star bubble bath! I have yet to epoxy this onto a ring blank. Yellow Aquamarine with stars and crane.

Here are a few pics of the crane and flower series. Cranes coated and drying.

Oops the batch is growing!

My favorite pairing. The flowers are actually a lot harder to make than the cranes.

I encasted some completely in resin!

Soooo, I realized that a lot of origami papers are white on one side, which I didn’t like. So I ended up using post-its. That’s right, post-its! They have surprisingly great color options which brightens up even more under resin which was a pleasant surprise.

And these are made with the clear window from junk mails lolol!

And how about stuffing nano stars into mini flowers? I have officially lost my mind.

Ok my boyfriend threatened an intervention after I sent him this picture lol.

Some in action pictures – I made the cufflinks too.
Yup, they go great with pearls

Ok that’s it for now!

I still don't know how you pulled off those itty bitty stars, I can't even make big ones! You know how much I love this series. Jewelry should make you smile, and these pieces certainly do. And I love the combo of gorgeous pearls with fun colors. So great!

I go WWWHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE every-single-time I wear them!!! ;)

Your work is incredible, Purr! This is definitely happy art!!!

OMG, Purr! I am blown away by your teeny-tiny itty-bitty workmanship as well as your artistic enthusiasm! Thank you for sharing. Beautiful, fun pieces too!

WOWZA!!! I cannot imagine folding paper that small. For starters, my eyesight isn't good enough. I'm seriously impressed. The results are amazing looking.

You're a genius Purr! Those are amazing and fun!!! I esp love the tsuru cuffs you made. How hardy are they? I'd be worried about crushing one. All these perfect origami pieces makes me think you'd pass the surgeon test!

PS, have you tried using washi? It looks like a few are washi. I bet finding a pattern so tiny would be difficult, but it would be great in absorbing the resin, I think (I've never worked with it).

Purranha, I’m speechless. These are so beautiful and delicate, really incredible. You should open an Etsy store! I thought that back when you were stringing ropes with tassels. So much talent:cool:
