Pearl rings - What's hot, what's not?

A little charming ring locket (!) packing five natural pearls and quite a bit of artistry... I think. Not really expensive, but it has to fit you... it doesn't fit me by too much to size.

This is what happens when us newbies trawl through all the old posts.
A customer brought in an antique ring with a similar woven section behind glass underneath the gemstones. She had purchased it as an engagement ring. I had the advice of an antiques expert repairer. He said its actually a Mourning ring, and the woven part may really be locks of hair of the beloved who had passed away. Fascinating.

Yup - thats precisely what it is - a Victorian mourning ring . Slightly unsettling to consider it as an engagement ring when you understand its original purpose.

A interesting modern spin on this idea - from the lampworking community - is the encasement of "cremains" (cremation ashes) within a lampworked bead\pendant\ornament.

Oh and dont get me started on the diamonds made from the remains of your loved one
