New Pieces from a New Studio!

Thanks.. I am glad to hear that you all approve of the paint color. I am quite fond of it.
We moved more chairs, a couch.. and cabinets in today!
It's amazing to see it all come together... it's been a tonne of work, and I am quite pleased!
It's such a different feeling to have neighbors out walking their dogs, stopping to compliment us on the few designs we leave the in the windows. It seems the whole neighborhood also approves of the paint color, even some of them admitting that they had apprehensions until they saw the final product!;) I am so used to only talking to people about pearls in a tradeshow setting.. and online!
One idea.. yet to come to fruition is that I want to make a collage of sorts on the inside of the front door.
I will use photos of happy people and happy pearls, and mix and match them in a rotating magnetized display. (as the door is big ugly and steel). It will be fun to add and change over the years to come!
So if any of you would like to donate some images... I would be grateful!

Sarah, I like the vibrant, energetic feeling of the paint color. It's like the color of sunrise, sunset. Please post more pics when you are finished.
 
Congratulations Sarah! I must come to Oakland and check it out. I am imagining fabulous fruit and playful pearls. And Nerida & Wendy, congrats as well. I can only dream of having an actual space some day. For now, it's the upstairs office and my tent!
 
What is a magnetized display? Please forgive my ignorance, but with technology so advanced you maybe could mean magnetized particles dancing around forming images, like one of those picture frames with one picture fading into another. That would be so cool!

Do you mean like pictures with magnets on the back, that you attach to the door in a rotating display (also very cool)?
 
How fun is that - congratulations! I love the color (and the pearls are lovely, too!). I'm hoping to be in SF the end of May. If I make it, I'll check to see if you are there to play pearls...
 
Lisa C... wow I like this idea "magnetized particles dancing around forming images".... however I think for the time being it will simply be photos of our happy friends in pearls... the best pearls and designs we have ever seen... all attached lovingly to the steel door with small removable magnets. I am looking forward to it being a fun and infinitely changeable display. In our family office in Hong Kong Fuji's father Rudolf had laminated and hung hundreds of photos spanning 4 decades of his favorite pearl photos. Customers loved it! The family did grow tired of explaining each baby photo of themselves posed with the finest pearls, but it was really a fun way to explore the different designs of times past.
SO I am hoping to recreate this idea in a much smaller and less laminated way.

Josh.. .Your mom was over on Sunday.. I made her an amazing pendant of Kamoka pearls, all gifts from you and your father.. we sat for hours and chatted. The pendant came out soooo beautiful, it reminded me of a squid, which made me laugh because I know how you fancy them. Then Diana bless her soul, agreed to Ethiopian food for dinner which was a first for her, and she LOVED it! What a remarkable woman is your mother!
John, YEAH hurry! Can't wait to finally meet you in person!
I will post photos of the door as it takes shape and still welcome anyone's favorite pearl pics!

Yep John, you have to get by to see the pearl phenomenon known as Sarah Canizzaro. Make sure your laughing muscles are in fine shape!
Sarah, that's great that you got some hang time with Mom. Sounded like too much fun.
 
Working here at the studio... enjoying the sunshine streaming in the windows and skylight. Waiting for the arrival of our new Kamoka inspired custom made "WAVE GATE" (photos to follow)... I thought I would share this new piece with you all.
I just finished it last night. It all started with this very unusual piece of gorgeous natural red Italian coral branch... (it's unusual because it folded over on itself while growing and it's branches grew back together.. and just seemed to be screaming to be made into a center piece).
The coral is complimented with three pieces of Kamoka keshi and one large circle drop.. all of it made with 18 and 22k yellow gold, and the chain is made of tiny Japan akoya keshi pearls.. carefully and painstakingly wire wrapped.
The necklace itself is 18" and the coral piece measures two and a half inches long. In other words, it is dramatic.. it is not for everyone, but I worked very hard on it and I am quite pleased with the final product!


The third photo... is of the beginnings of the door collage. Thank you to all the pearl people who have offered their favorite images... I promise they are going to be displayed.. he he just as soon as I get more magnets.... in the mean time magnetic clasps seem to do the trick!:)

That is most unusual coral. I have some long pieces of the same kind of coral. It was drilled in the 1950's by a Navajo artisan, lengthwise! It make me wonder if that piece could be drilled like that?

Here are pix of 2 necklaces I made in SF in the 60's. I have never seen any other coral drilled lengthwise. The top photo is a necklace I made in the 60's and got sent back for restringing a couple of years ago. I asked and received permission to switch out the p radiatas that were on there originally, for cultured freshwaters.

Wow Caitlin.. Those are beautiful. They seem as if each and ever bead tells a story.. which knowing you means they must!
I drilled the coral in the new necklace myself... it is a slow process.. so I can only imagine the lengthwise is something you do as a meditation!
I recently replaced a pearl in an earring that the customer has been wearing for 10 years! I did not recognize the earrings..and it was a journey in and of itself.. remembering where I was when I made them, the time in my life and the inspirations.
Your necklaces remind me of that feeling!
