you are too sweet, mausketeer! Have you looked at Riogrande.com? I get my supplies from there and I've never had an issue with quality. Though with gold prices where they are, sometimes it's better to recycle a gold chain (or two) that you already have in your jewelry box and buy just the milled gold wire Can't wait to see what you do with those beauts!

I don't have much for making "franken-projects" in my jewelry box but I do try to find vintage, used, or "for repurposing" items first before I go for new. Not even as an enviro thing - cost and quality seems to be better (and uniqueness). I'll check out Riogrande though, thanks so much!

Yes, and if you link from a hosting site, that link is only good for as long as the photo is on the hosting site. P-G has lost many good photos that way.

So further to my OBSESSION with these teensy Cortez pearls......they've been sitting out on my coffee table while I try to decide on a thread colour. I had wondered about their strong red/pink fluorescence under UV, and whether it would make them look different in different light, the way it does with diamonds (I have a very odd coloured silver-pink diamond that exhibits strong fluorescence under UV. In the sun it has an almost "blurry" look). Well it was sunny here in my apartment this morning, so took some photos. Amazing difference from low light conditions! Very bronze and pink, rather than purple blue as they appear normally. Gosh I love science!

You know what? They are all sitting there in my cabinet: pearls, clasp and "string" (can't remember what it's called, "Pearlers secret?"). I am extremely lazy. And a terrible procrastinator. Did I mention lazy? Lol. I MUST get them done in time to wear for the holidays though!

Ummm.......on-line of course! . To be honest, I'm a little hesitant to say where...... I found the website a couple of years ago, but have never seen them mentioned on here....... always found that a bit odd (but I know there might be a reason for it..... but maybe I don't want to know WHY, lol)...... They only have naturals - many - and very rare varieties so....... they must be known to the "community"....... (no, not Kari)......

I just want to see if they will fluoresce red with the UV. I know Douglas' pearls do...... I assume all P. Sterna would as well whether they are cultured or natural ones, right?

Yes...and no. Sorry if I am a bit confusing here.
If you get really white pearls from Pteria sterna then you will have the normal blue glow. Only pearls with a deeper color will display the red fluorescence: the deeper & darker the color, the redder they become.

And yes: cultured and natural are the same in their reaction to LW-UV light.

Ah, of course I missed your reply, thank you Douglas. I can't recall whether I posted the photos of these under UV light or not. It was quite cool! All red and pink. That flashlight turned out to be really fun. I think I looked at every pearl I own under it, lol (although using it in the bathroom turned out to be a biggggggg mistake.......yikes!)
