My pearl earring collection

I LOVE the ones from Druzy.....(I'm assuming that) They have that sunburst gold thingy and are GORGEOUS! Which do you wear the most?

Yes, they are from Druzy, as is the pair to the right. In fact, the four pairs to the right are all south sea pearls. The rose gold pair came from TPO. And there is another pair of light goldens to the right of the pauas that was the drill-through accident. If you look closely, you can see a little nub at the bottom of one pearl.

I wear the white Druzy ssp earrings a lot with different pendants and I like to wear the Freshadama studs when I wear a print top that's too busy for a necklace. Those studs are also perfect weekend wear with jeans and a white scoop-neck tee shirt.

Here are the Druzy Sea of Cortez earrings with the SS Keshi pendant I wear with them... ;)

Wow, Blaire!! But you only have 2 ears, right? Do you have extra holes in your ears? I would have to change earrings many times a day. What a fabulous collection, thanks for sharing.

Ahh, those are gorgeous pearls and the craftsmanship is heavenly. I have pearlrotic dreams in which that immensely gifted designer creates similar pieces in white gold...

I dream to that too! I don't mind if they are in platinum or other white precious metal alloy :D

Those lovely mabe abalone would look divine in white gold or platinum! :)

DK :)

Personally I think the Abalone mabes look better in yellow gold because the white or greyish colourtone of platinum has a much colder look. That?s just my opinion, though. I also like the Tahitians very much. Blair: the pods: CFWP or Akoyas?

WHOA !!! Lovely Cortez.
I've been meaning to ask P-G members who bought from CareE, how do you wear her pendant with lower karat gold chain? What I mean is: the 22K of her gold on 14K chain. Does it not match? Or do you buy 22K chain from her too? It seems the 22K is more orange/yellow than most 14K chains that I have.

You are absolutely right Inge. Yellow gold adds warmth and life to the Abalone colors.

I have a pendant from Care that I wear on a 14k chain - I works just fine. I usually buy very deep yellow gold regardless. Often, Italian made chains (that's what mine are) have a nice color that works with 18k and above.

Some of the chains I use with Carolyn's pendants are 18k "clad". (From QVC:eek:) Usually made in Italy, too. I have just one of Carolyn's chains, it is gorgeous, but cannot afford in every length.

IMO, the more matte or textured finish seems to coordinate better than a very shiny chain. Most of the world seems to prefer the deeper, richer gold color as opposed to the shiny lighter 14k that is sold here in the US. Chains vary in color depending on the percentage of alloys used. So some 14k would no doubt be just fine, as Heidi has found.

It's just one of those mysterious differences of aesthetic preference. :) I really dislike warm colors and I feel orangey metal clashes with the silvery rainbow iridescence in fine pearls, which is what I like to focus on. Nlerner mentioned "life"-- perhaps that's the very heart of the difference between white metal devotees and yellow metal lovers? I want pearls to look like glowing chrome gems with a cool color behind the mirror surface, not warm or alive.

I love cold weather, have cool ash brown-black hair and eyes and blueish skin when I remember to wear my sunscreen religiously, so it's a theme. :D

Laurenb, let me try to explain. I don't think that it is a matter of aesthetic preferences. There are two groups of colors: warm and cold.
White SSP as well as natural color baroque Akoya, the ones Jeremy offered us will definitely go with white gold because they belong to the cold range of color, the abalone pearls will look very poor in a white setting. There is hardly any "silvery rainbow iridescence" in Abalobe pearls and yellow gold will give them a more majestic look.

Tahitian go very well with both colors, but GSS need yellow gold exclusively.

I would leave the settings for natural color FW to personal preference. For me that will always be YG.......;)

Lauren,

Have you had your colour analysed? I did it and the result confirmed I am a "Winter". I can wear strong contrasting colours, and need blue tone in my colours :)

I look sick in cream, beige, brown, orange and other earthy colours

Metal has to be white, yellow looks wrong on me

And I do not like any coloured gemstones in yellow gold, and would never dream of wearing peach or golden coloured pearls. Multi-coloured strands have never appealed to me, as there are always some colours that do not agree with me.

I am Chinese by ethnicity, and my black hair is now mostly silver/platinum, and may be able to get away with lavender or pink, however, I'd rather go for silver or grey instead :)

When I saw the abalone mabe, I immediately thought, oooooo, that would be nice in white gold! As you said, it is personal preference :)

Oh dear, this is a bit of a misunderstanding. I was under the impression we were discussing the 22k trio and was interested in the way you two described your affection for yellow gold.

As you say, abalone mabe lack the properties I hunt for in pearls and, not surprisingly, I have limited familiarity with them. I think being at work was distracting me from the conversation. ;) The keishi would stand alongside any metal color quite well, I think.

For me, there is no amount of orange metal that could improve any situation unless it's in ingot or bar form-- that's why I said it was an irreducible difference in preference. :D

It's a gorgeous, admirably comprehensive collection, Blaire!

Wow Blaire! What a collection!! I must admit, I have a soft spot for the Abalone mabe pearl earrings.

Bravo!

THis is a fabulous, elegant collection. Really special. I think the Sea of Cortez ones are my favorites! Actually I love them all!
