Morning! Buttons vs round studs...

Howdy. Are there any previous posts about button versus round studs, perhaps with pictures too? Specifically, I am interested in size 9-10 mm, white, FWs. However, I am looking to see the difference between the two shapes, so color and species aren't as important at this juncture. I just got a 7.5-8 mm freshadama strand for my birthday (it's beautiful, and I *will* post a picture to my profile eventually), and I want some earings to wear with them. I am worried about the roundness though, with them sticking out too much. I want a nice quality pair, but I think I want the button shape... I am pretty sold on buttons, but something is holding me back... like they will not be good enough next to my flawless strand. I generally do not wear earings except for special occasions. Any advice or help would be great. I'm looking to buy asap because I have a wedding to go to in a few weeks, and I want to show off my treasures! Thanks a million, and have a great day today!

Buttons sit closer to the earlobe so they are a bit neater in larger sizes - and of course will be cheaper than perfect round quality.
here is a pair of 9-10 buttons e_10mm_white_on_silver_studs.jpg

and here are 10mm rounds e white aaa essence round 10.3 studs on silver3481 .jpg

The pearl quality is the same - AAA metallic

Hang on, I'm taking a few photos for you....

Okay, here are button and round pearls 9-9.5mm on my ear and in my hand. The round are white fw metallics, the peach buttons are ordinary inexpensive buttons from a gem show.

I don't think the round ones stick out too much in this size, but the buttons look okay too. If you get AA+ buttons the luster will be good anyway. See if the vendor can match the tones of your freshwater strand.

Edit: Have you already worn buttons in any size? My only issue with them is that if they sag at all, the flat back is unattractive. If you keep them snug up to your ear, they look okay.
That said, I personally like the look of rounds more in this size.

Thank you so much ladies, that was exactly what I was looking for!

I agree for larger sizes I think the button looks better.

They are quite beautiful Wendy, thanks for the pictures. And yes, after seeing the photos on pearl dreams, I am confident that buttons are they way to go for me. They were so helpful.

I talked to Kim @ PP, and she said that she could try to match them to my necklace if I either send them back, or take pictures and give a description. Since I am not great with the descriptions, I thought that I could upload the photos here and use your expertise to help me with the descriptions. I missed the natural light today, so it will have to wait to take some pictures of the necklace for the match up until tomorrow or Friday.

Thanks again!

Dreams, I just saw your edit. No, I do not wear anything but princess cut diamonds, and that is only sometimes. I am, however, diligent (to the point of obsession really), about keeping them tight to my ear. Thanks for the tip, so I make sure to keep the pearls tight too. Do you know, off hand, if PP has screw backs, or something like that, that I could request for the earrings to keep tight? Thanks again!

No idea, MrsD, but I'd be surprised if they were not able to accomodate your needs somehow. I've always just snugged the ear nut a bit tighter if I needed to.

i just got my 9-10mm round metallic studs from pp, and when i mentioned it, they were able to send me the big huge earnuts that keep the ol' lobes from sagging - they fit super nice and snug, and work wonders! i accidentally slept in them the other night, and both were just as snug when i woke up as when i'd was paying attention to them in front of the mirror the night before. :)

Okay, so here are some pictures I took by the window. I picked the clearest ones. Unfortunately, I have a terrible camera. Here is hoping I did this right...DSC01750.jpg DSC01755.jpg 010 027 DSC01759.jpg

Yay, I did it right.
The one with the paper towel is in window light.
The final one is with no window light, just residual in-the-room light.

Any description to give to Kim to match these beautiful buttons that I plan to acquire are welcomed! Thanks!

I'll try it, thanks.

I have to leave for work, but I sent you a PM, and I will try it when I get back, thank you!

I meant to just copy and paste the link to your post with the photos in the Live Chat box -- or email them the link. That way they can see the colors themselves rather than depending on our interpretation of them.

I was told to provide her [Kim @ PP] with pictures and a description of the luster, overtone, etc. of the strand. I was hoping for some help with descriptions of the pearls to match them up with the earrings that I intend to purchase because all I know is that they are pretty and shiny (that is why I put them here, for help). She will also get the pictures as soon as I can come up with some descriptions. I know I asked for metallic luster, so at least I have that. I think I will just work on it on my own now since I need to get the order in soon. Thanks though.

MrsD,

Your necklace is lovely and lustrous; I'm certain when PP sees your photos they will help you choose fabulous earrings to wear with it! Please do show us a photo of both earrings and necklace together. Thank you for modeling the pearls. They look fabulous on you!
