natrual blister pearl in a limpet

natrual blister pearl in a limpet

I have lately found a blister pearl on a common turtle limpet, doing some research i have yet to find information about pearls in limpets. Being a univalve shell in that shape, it seems to be very rare to have a pearl forming.
does any one have any photos, or info about pearls in that limpet type, or any other limpet type for the matter. Please advice me how rare is this find..

Hi Dave, this is off my local craigs list, could probably get it for $20, I have no no idea of what sort of oyster, or its rarity.

Owner thinks it is something special cause it has so many pearls in one shell.

If you want it let me know and I'll try and snipe it.

It looks like a shell cutting from China. Almost every shell they graft end up with these blisters. They buy shells in sacks by the ton and reprocess it into pieces like that. You can see where there were two that didn't stick. There are two grafts that stuck to each other as well as the shell. You can even see the squares of tissue inside them.

Right - total trash then, I will delete from my watch list!

nothing have around 400 now just lined up as art think its a shame to cut them open for there blister so just leave them in , its hard sometimes to make good pictures but when i have time ill try to show some of the newer ones :)

found this picture on a website who makes displays for art ancientartifax.com thinking about making all displays with the species like this

Wow 400? That is quite the collection! I like the clean lines of that display.

Not just a killer, it seems like something that just couldn't happen! That makes it all the more amazing. Did this thing puncture the flesh on the other side? We'll never know!

What beautiful and interesting specimens! That atrina blister is something special!

Hi, everyone:

I thought I`d revive this old thread as today I found something in a thrift shop (of all places!) that I believe falls under the category of ``natural blister in a shell/pearl". Is this a black-lipped pearl oyster shell? Is this blister natural? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm a complete newbie to this an am eager to learn!
