I found a purple pearl in a clam I was eating-The Quahog Thread

This is a quahog pearl I found while a commercial fisherman in Bass River on Cape Cod. Would love to have it appraised or put in a setting it's 7.5X8mm

Pretty purple, pretty shape. Makes a nice drop earring for FDR. (That is FDR, right?)

Knotty, you are such a goofball! I spit up my soda laughing about FDR wearing an earring! :D

I didn't think they could be drilled. Am I wrong?

Freshwater clam earrings! Only 87 bucks. I did not know they could be had in a 9mm size.

Are those "legit" or carved out of shell??? I didn't know that clams could be cultured (seem rather rustic to me ;))

It's very pretty and it sounds like it has a flame pattern to it. Nice collector piece.

Hi CarolK,

Not legit. They are dyed Chinese freshwaters that are mislabelled as clam pearls.

I notice that it says "freshwater" clams. Quahog clams are salt water. Just a new way to push freshwater pearls as something else!

Ebay pearl

Ebay pearl

It actually sold, $545.00. Encouraging to me. My own pearl is a similar size, darker, shinier, rounder. There's hope!

My photos were missing (hard drive crash, windows 7, oops!) I just now re-photographed my pearl and wanted them on this thread. I apologize.

That's a little beauty there. It is surprising that our own 'Queen of Purple', Caitlin, isn't drooling on her keyboard over that color.:p

Sarah carries some of those also. They are such dainty, colorful pearls. I just love them.:)
