Hi Everyone:

I took a pearl knotting class yesterday and this is a picture of my first attempt. Next time I'm going to use a smaller thread size to get smaller knots. But I'm still pretty happy with the result. I feel like I have pearl power! I bought the pearls from John Tu at the Gem Faire in Eugene, OR. The pearls are about 12mm long by 9mm wide.

I don't post very much but I sure do enjoy reading the posts from everyone else.:)

Wow, and wow.:) Those look great on you and you did a great job with them. That's one amazing strand of peals you knotted up for yourself.
Welcome to the board.;)

Welcome to PG and congratulations on your first necklace!

DK :)

Hi Pearlcat and welcome!

Perfect choice of pearls for you.. they look amazing on your skin!
Nice knotting - fantastic for a first effort! Well done.

Those look wonderful, very nice job! It's a great feeling to take pearls on a sale strand and turn them into something that can be worn and enjoyed.

Hi Pearlcat,
Welcome to the forum. :)
And your necklace is gorgeous; nice work.....
Thanks for the photos. - peach baroques, mmmm.....

Good job, and lovely pearls. You clearly have an eye for buying pearls and the dexterous ability to knot. Plus the wisdom to find a good teacher.

Hi Pearlcat,

it is great fun to match and knot ones own necklace, isn?t it? Nice result for a first time knotting, is it silk you are using? Even tinier knots you can get in using Power Pro and for pearls the size you mention probably much better than silk because of the stretching!

Thanks for all your kind words. Jerin -- I used silk size 8 at the suggestion of the instructor. Haven't tried Power Pro yet but will in the future. I need to read up on it in the forum. Do you recommend it for larger pearls as opposed to smaller ones?

Did they have you use two strands of silk, or one?

They had me use one strand with Griffin bead strand. I made some other necklaces with smaller thread and like the result better.

Very impressive to use single strand knotting on a first attempt... and to get such a great result! You've probably gathered most of us use a double strand... give it a go, and you will be surprised how much easier you find it!
I had another look at your photos just to see how great those peach baroques look on your skintone. You really did choose well.

Beautiful pearls and beautiful job on stringing them!

Pearlcat, welcome to PG. That is great knotting job. Beautiful pearls too. You should try knotting using double strand. Caitlin and Jerin recommended Pearl and Bead Stringing with Henrietta by Henrietta Virchick; and that is what I used.

Pearlcat, your peachy necklace looks terrific on you. Clearly, redheads rule when it comes to peach pearls! Great job. Be sure to post photos when you make more jewelry.

Did you mention to John that you read about him on Pearl-Guide? I think he gets a kick out of it. ;)
