Here's a listing I couldn't resist checking out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170683114280&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

This was my message to her:
Akoya pearls don't come in 14mm, how do you know these are akoya? Have you had this item evaluated to know what kind of pearls they are?
tia for your reply. I am a pearl scholar and pearl collector.

And her reply:
Hello Pearl Prophet!... You are right.. i was Wrong.. the Large pearls are
13 mm, not 14 as my eyesight is not what it used to be.
Thanks for the heads up.. and to let you know how i know..If you read the provenance,
you would know this was handed down in the family. One owner before,
and all provenance is a 'Known'.

??????

Well, the sellers name (imbroke0051 aka I am broke) may say it all. Under such circumstances, credibility is low.

Oh yeah, sure! 13mm akoyas are EASY to get on eBay! ROFL

Actually I don't do much akoya, real or fake. Thank goodness, my collection is too big as it is (Don't ask how many pearl necklaces I have!) and I only wear a few of them! I'm glad not to have to want akoyas too. I do mostly FW and I still have graduated sizes of those, loose, from one of Jeremy's specials a few years ago. It is just a matter of laying them out on the beadboard!

For the record. I wear my Tahitian pearls, my metallic whites, and my radiatas. I rarely need to go any deeper into my collection than that, but I am glad I have a 1/2 dozen ropes. Sometimes it just has to be ropes, like when I am in an Auntie Mame mode.... this one in this thread is obviously a rope. Oh and I didn't even mention bracelets!

I know, repeating 100 times "do not look at ebay listings, do not look at ebay listings, etc, etc,etc,--------" Nothing like having a Great Aunt who had a huge collection of pearl necklaces in her estate!

HaHa! That sounds like a good signature......
do not look at ebay listings, do not look at ebay listings, do not look at the ebay listings...

Wow! Only $295 for a million dollar strand of pearls! :p

It is actually a bit high for a faux strand though, even if it is vintage.

Well, I wore four of them with a Picasso portrait shirt to the first day of the ruckus! It felt so deconstructed 1920's!

Oh, i would like to see that strand pass the tooth test...
