Can these two baroque necklaces be compared?

Hi everyone,

these 3 pics just get to show that all depends on how you put the strand before photographing it.

In the first pic there are no circles to be seen and just the colour and luster jumps at you,

the second and the third one let you see that there are circles, still the colur and the luster is captivating!

May I ask where did you purchase this strand? It is so beautiful. I am on a quest for a Tahitian baroque, probably aqua tones, though.

I purchased the strand from Elaine (ebwootten). The pearls on the strand are from Josh's farm

The zoom in feature is something we have considered in the past. I do not like the one on Pearl Source, however. If we did decide to use one we would use one similar to Angela Carol. It is much more user friendly.

But there is one question that comes up with the "zoom" feature. If P. Source is using a generic photo and the photographed piece is not the one the customer will receive, what is the point of having the zoom feature? Its purpose is primarily to examine inclusions. Color and luster can be viewed in a 3x5 picture. In pieces that are absolutely certain to be generic photos, like freshwater and akoya, use of such a feature would certainly be misleading in my opinion. What good does it do to examine a generic photo under a loupe?

thanks for this answer on the zoom feature - I do agree to a certain point - the photo of course must be of the exact strand that is on offer, not a generic one, but I do not see why this type of zoom is not customer friendly
- on the contrary it shows surface and colur excellently in my opinion!

I haven?t looked at the zoom on Angela Carols site as yet, but I did like the large magnifying of PS site.
If the strand is one of a kind, it makes it very easy for the customer to look at it from many angles and in the circled ones it is important to see the colours as the surface because of the circles is not that important.

I like the look of these two necklaces, though price does vary quite a bit between the two. The more expensive one has around the same size pearls, excellent luster and same quality, AA.

The less expensive strand is also AA, around the same size pearls, (though there is a typo about size, think it is 8.26-10.8mm, not 9.26) but would one assume the luster perhaps is not as high? It is not stated, so I'm thinking that is the reason for the lower cost.

I was looking at the pictures again and I think this strand would be a better comparison to the Pearl Source piece. The colors are very similar, the size is the same, and they have similar circling. The only significant difference (based on the grade) would likely be the surface.

So, I believe this is the strand I was looking for and followed the link that Jeremy provided....and guess what, its out of stock, but doesn't say sold? Not understanding that.....

Yesterday I received an email from Kirsten at PP....please see below. Not sure what to make of this at all. Any thoughts?

When I checked all the baroque Tahitian strands yesterday, there were very few and some marked sold. I guess I didn't get a chance to purchase before general public. Oh well, I guess I will look elsewhere.

Hi Jody!

We got in the new Tahitian baroque strand yesterday and there are 5 sitting on my desk that are similar to #252. The size ranges, overtones, and shape are similar to that strand with the largest one (10.1-12.2) having more rose and green bands of colour than all the others. I'm going to have our photographer, Natalie, take a photo of these strands and get you a picture either today or tomorrow with all the specs and prices.

These strands will not go up on the site for the general public until you have had a chance to take a look. I'll get back to you with the photos as soon as I can and then we can go from there if you see one you like.

PS--I forgot to mention there are several more Tahitian strands now available at PP than yesterday. I thought I would get a chance to purchase the strand Jeremy gave the link since I had been alerted by email they were coming. I had really wanted a strand with more greens and pinks like the one I had found at The Pearl Source. I am disappointed.

Jody, that email sounds to me like they are holding 5 different necklaces which are similar to that strand (252) from release to the general public so that you can look them over and see if you would like to purchase any of them. Also, I just tried to add 252 to my cart and it allowed me to, implying that particular strand is still available. I think PP is trying very hard to get you a necklace that you will like. Jeremy posted elsewhere that Natalie has been very busy, which may explain why you haven't gotten any photos yet. At least try emailing Kristen again and ask what is going on before just giving up and deciding that you should look elsewhere. Good luck!

If Kirsten says she has some strands on her desk for you, she has some strands on her desk for you. We uploaded a few new strands yesterday, but I think you are misinterpreting it. We have hundreds of new strands. The strand that I posted a link to last night sold last night as well. This is why it will not allow you to place it in your cart.

Jeremy's not kidding. Kirsten put aside a couple of strands of silver tahitians for me a few months ago and had Natalie send me pics. I now have a beautiful strand of silver tahitians which was never listed on the site. And they made earrings to match for me. It's definitely worth the wait!

The things that get posted here, I have to say, they often go very fast. I almost bought that strand myself last night! The ones Kirsten has on her desk obviously are reserved for your approval. Which is great - you can consider them at your leisure!
