Anyone ever heard of Sakata Pearls in Ginza Tokyo?

So from what I read in this thread, Sakata in Chicago is an off-shoot of the one in Japan?

Also, my husband's grandmother used to work for Caterpillar in Peoria, IL and received this brooch from a Japanese contact in the 1970s or 80s (she can't remember the exact year). She never wore it, afraid it would diminish the value. I'm certain these are akoya pearls given the age, and the metal is 14k white gold. It is beautiful! I'm including pictures sp everybody can see the eye candy and give any extra info if you happen to have any :)

That's a lovely piece lary007! It would make a gorgeous pendant clasp!

Gorgeous, Lary! You should wear it!

Thanks battah and amti! Hopefully she'll let me take it for a spin one day!

Sakata pearls is a company (now defunct I believe) that dealt in pearls in the early 20th century. If the pearls are indeed Sakata, they would presumably be an antique.
Did you happen to buy them? They could be quite valuable if in good condition.

Darn!!!! I had a strand presumed 40's...in original blue velvet box...I paid about $100 & sold it about $100.

Have to track down a photo...

Hello! It seems that this is the only valuable source of information on Sakata Pearls Co.Ltd from Tokyo Japan on internet. Very interesting! Thank you all for sharing information! Since there is so little information on Sakata pearls, I thought it would be a good idea to add my bit of info. My parents lived in Tokyo Japan in 1968-73 and purchased a brooch from Sakata, which I have now discovered untouched in the box. Now I am trying to figure out what's it worth.

Hello Ilya-Ro, and welcome to our pearl loving forum :)
We love pearls here. You have posted a very nice brooch there...very nice piece, the pearls are great, the jewelry setting is exquisite.
I thought I read a "950" marking there, so I am assuming it is Silver.
What do you think of this piece dear forum members?

I just stumbled back on this thread. My husband's grandmother that I talked about at the beginning of this page passed away a few years ago and one of the many things she left for me was that brooch. I treasure it and do wear it from time to time!
