2017 Ruckus Treasures

BWeaves - I stuck to Douglas like glue after the talks, until he finally set up his display. Sea of Cortez pearls are the most rare, and getting to choose from these magnificent treasures is a wonderful treat.

BWeaves I can only say what I plan to do when I finally attend a Ruckus - Same plan for Douglas and Sarah! "Hi, I'm Lema, great to meet you! I'll just follow you around until you pull out your goodies to share, because I don't want to miss anything!" Not obnoxious at all, right? ;)

Sooooo, Saturday lunch at Ruckus. Sarah from Kojima sits down next to me and I thought she was wearing a new Waterfall necklace, so I grabbed it and yelled, "DIBS!" I swear, I've never done that before in my life.

But it was NOT a Waterfall necklace. I don't know what Sarah called it, but I'm calling it The Everything Bagel necklace. It's a continuous loop with everything good on it.

The Everything Bagel necklace - Kojima

Vintage, natural colored, Japanese akoya pearls.
Smooth, Japanese Kasumi pearls. They're not ripples. I actually thought they were Edisons until I read the receipt.
Baroque, white South Sea pearls.
Baroque, golden South Sea pearls.
Tahitian keshi pearls from Kamoka.

There's no clasp. It's 54 inches long, and I can loop it three times around my neck easily, although I'll probably only loop it once or twice, so I can see it. It's quite light on my neck. All the small pearls keep the weight down. I wore it with some blue drops I got from Kojima hanging on my Mom's hoop earrings.

There's no knots. Between the pearls, Sarah put those little rubber baby buggy bumpers. I love the way this necklace hangs, too. The bumpers give the bottom of the necklace a nice curve.

I'm so thrilled with this necklace. I love all the pastel colors, and the orient on most of these pearls is insane.

I wore it to work and played with it in my lap all day. It's not conducive to getting work done.

That's fabulous, BWeaves! I've been digging that waterfall look lately, and I love how this one incorporates so many delicious things. Sarah is so talented.

Oh, BWeaves! What a treasure, indeed!!!!!!! Gorgeous pearls and fabulous design. I couldn't work, either, if I had those on. I'd be mesmerized for hours.

Oh my goodness , so many wonderful pearls !

First I have to say. Red - I was looking forward to the designs and they didn't disappoint ( never thought that they would ) ! Marvellous! I love the green TSV with that amazing pearl ! All the pieces are amazing !

BWeaves- the Tahitians are beautiful and that rope is a wowser!

Battah - beautiful SoC pearls ! Lucky you with a personal shopper !! Haha

Red, your ring is going to be another one of those drool worthy pieces! What brilliant colors in your mabe!

BWeaves, I love the strand you got from Sarah. It is so cute and playful with all those colors. I don't think you'll ever get tired of it but if you do, let me know!

Battah, can't wait to see what you make with the SOC pearls!

I had a wonderful time! It was fun to meet everybody and put faces to names. And Bweaves, it was really nice to have eggs for breakfast. I can't handle the sweet stuff, I need protein! My main treasure is this tahitian harvest necklace from Kamoka:

Linda, oh my god your Kamoka harvest strand is so beautiful!!

My multicolored T's from PP, worn with my blue drops from Kojima I got last year.

This strand is near round and very shiny. The blue green one to the left of center just pops, and the I love the white one dead center. I had them strung with a white gold orbit clasp. This photo does not do them justice. In the RUCKUS videos and photos, this is the strand I'm playing with.

Wait until you see what I have for you tomorrow. BWA-HAHAHAHAH.

LOVE!!!! It is STUNNING!!!! And it looks amazing on you. Gorgeous!

I had a design appointment with Soren at T Lee in Minneapolis today. My Sea of Cortez erotochromic mabe will be set in a ring of 18kt yellow gold with a half arc of bright green Tsavorite garnets. I can hardly wait. I waited a year for the opportunity to select this ring pearl, and it was worth the wait. Douglas outdid himself.

Red!! Wow your new SoC is insanely beautiful! Love love love!

Red that's fabulous! I can't wait to see the final piece, your collection is beautiful.

So I'm going to count this as Ruckus loot, since these pearls visited the Ruckus and JulieBeth told me about them - I reached out to Douglas and snagged some of the little SoC naturals that you all got the chance to see - so excited about it! They're really gorgeous - now to plan something (or more than one something) really special to put them in (I snagged the 5 on the right side). The gears are turning...

Battah these are gorgeous!! Can't wait to see what you do with them!

This brought a smile to my face. But hey really great strategy n u scooped a fab mabe.
Really should ask Douglas to bring more pearls to the ruckus as this isn't the first time I've heard of his wares running out before people have laid eyes on them.

PSS : Pearl Shrinkage Syndrome. The feeling that your pearls are too small. You must get bigger ones because they make you look smaller.

vs.

littleh: The smaller the pearl, the bigger Hisano looks.

Put it all together and . . .

WHEEEEE! I can't believe I own this! I got the littleh emerald and soufflé pearl enhancer at last year's RUCKUS (2016). At this year's RUCKUS (2017), Hisano had another emerald and soufflé pearl pendant hanging off this INSANE emerald and pearl wire wrapped chain, and I asked her if I could just buy the chain. The pieces parts are sooooo tiny, and the wire wrapping is teeny tiny.

I've also hung La Perlagrina off this chain and it looks great, too.

I wore it with my new 9 mm Hanadama studs. If I could only have one pair of earrings, these would be the ones. It's the reason I got my ears pierced was to have this earring look. I think I'll sell my first pearl studs. I'll never wear those cheapies again.

Also, I got Alex to swap out the earring backs for the really big, monster earring backs. They're easier to handle than those tiny earring backs, and they make the larger pearls sit up higher on the earlobe.

More to come . . .

BW, your new necklace looks PERFECT with your pendant!! And so lovely on you! This match was ment to be!

Here are a few of my treasures:

Those are great, SunSeeker! Bronze tones really suit you.

What a great Fiji bracelet, SunSeeker. I remember that and the white/ brown Fiji bracelet that Elaine purchased, filled completely with two-tone pearls. Treasures, indeed.

I love the necklace and bracelet you got, SunSeeker. Nice and summery looking, too.

Thank you, Icyjade. Last year I was taking pictures of all of the vendors and posting on Pearl Guide, and was too late for the erotochromic mabe. That wasn't going to happen to me again.

Douglas has explained in other years that he carries his inventory on his person, and is limited in what he can bring across the border. I think he brings the most interesting items to show us, and hopes to sell most everything.

There was a lot of discussion at the ruckus this year because we were supposed to have the Fiji pearls in time for the ruckus, but the shipment was held up in US Customs due to the package containing oyster shells as well as pearls. Apparently, bringing shells into the US gets the attention of US Game and Wildlife, and can be a problem. (Lesson learned. Always ship the pearls and shells to the US in separate packages.) I've heard stories of people being thrown into jail for bringing oyster shells into the country. I guess I was lucky when I brought those two Atlas oyster shells into the country from Bali packed in my luggage. They were not discovered.
