100 Inch Rope Challenge!!

I am so in love with Sarah's rope. Just gorgeous!!!

Blushing... Thanks ladies.
I have an idea for next year...
A pearl strand that goes all the way around the world.. we will each string segments and then join them together... Maybe Christo and Jeanne-Claude will find the funding for us?
Cheers

I'll drink to that !!!

What about a rope that is created somewhere by segments we each do and send off somewhere for completion?? not sure how that could work, but I am sure someone could work that out..

I checked my ropes. Longest is 90".... Good but no cookie....

Knotting is not a problem. I work like experts from this forum : after cutting the thread, I roll the back end on the spool and leave "free" only the length that I need to work...

A fun idea, Nerida! Maybe something like this could be done to support our "Green Pearl Activists"? Plus set a Guinness World Record?

Ivona,
Now, don't you want to go for 100??!!

What are the sizes of the pearls? They look huge!

100"..... not any time soon. Unless I make a medley off all the leftovers ( in my leftovers you will not find any Kasumi nor GSS - just plain old FW....)

Size: coins 13-14mm, ovals: from 4x6 to 8x10
And yes: colors/overtones are amazing. I love this rope...

Imanit, I love it.. very classy! I love that you used different sizes of "rice" pearls. It's very beautiful!

Complement coming from you, a "sexy pearl-babe" is very welcomed ! I love your designs and I visit your website often, just to drool.....

That really is lovely, Ivona. Much as I love purple, that color of pearl does nothing for my skin tone, but it looks absolutely beautiful on you!

Sarah,
Your strand is faboo, what nice pearls! I hope you keep it and wear it. It will start a trend!

Imanit
Indeed, I am impressed! I love the coin pearls balancing the rice pearls. I rend to like your work very much!

I made my strand on wire, but I intend to knot it. I am getting another camera in the next day or so.

Sure, pearls around the world sound like fun, but my daydream is that you wear your 100-incher until a shamelessly wealthy guy spends an outrageous amount to buy it off your neck for his wife. You then drop by the dealer and pick up a sweet Ferrari convertible. Soon you are sailing down highway 101, sun shining on your skin and wind in your hair... Yeah, pearls are powerful! ;)

O.K., time for me to chime in, though my rope has made a few appearances before...

Vital stats:

Length: 10 feet (120 inches)

Type: Tahitian, all colors, plus a handful of white/golden SouthSeas

Weight: 1.1 lbs (500 grams)

Size: 7.5 - 17.5mm

Name: my dream rope

I can wrap it around my neck 8 times, but with the weight, it's a tad oppressive. My favorite way to wear it is simply doubled, with a brooch holding the strands in place in the front. That keeps them from flopping about, but allows me to play with them. Makes me feel rather flapper-esque...

Not doubled, it comes down to my ankles, and I'm 6 feet tall (1m80).

I do rather like Sarah's idea of slinging pearls around the hips a few times...it's a good thing I made my strand extra long! :D

Yes, it spawned a whole plethora of pearl-envy feelings... definitely the mother of all ropes, and still makes me swoon!
