Right-- they are real pearls, just not south sea. You must have liked them (or you would not have bought them) so wear them in good health!

That would be about US $121. I'm sorry but I can't see how you would get south sea pearls for that price. The blemish also doesn't look like SSP to me. I think freshwaters is more likely, but I'm interested to know what others think.

The pearls look like dyed cultured freshwater pearls from China. I don't see a need for cleaning or restringing. Beading wire is very strong. As to the green stone, maybe aventurine?

I like half hard gold filled wire best, or Argentium silver (but even that tarnishes eventually and if you use it with pearls, it will be hard to clean the piece.) I have used rose gold colored craft wire from Michael's for a very casual piece.

To me they look like older Chinese freshwater pearls-- 1980s- early '90s or so. Perhaps the pearls were originally strung differently, and the previous owner made them into a 3 strand necklace with the current clasp.

I just want to say that whether or not the necklace is Mikimoto brand, it is obviously a treasured sentimental item, the pearls are real pearls, the clasp is gold, and it will look even better when it is cleaned and restrung. I hope they will be enjoyed in good health for many years to come!

Washing them is easy! You can do it yourself. Swish a bit of mild soap in some water. I prefer to use distilled water to avoid both chlorine and possible hard water minerals, which combine with soap to make a hard to remove scum. (I speak from experience. Our well water is hard.) Then soak the...
