    Ebay Chinese Pearl Buying Adventure

If the Ebay seller is Chinese. It is 99.9% sure they do NOT have pearls from anywhere but China. So no matter what they call the pearls they are still freshwater. Beware the "Tahitian Black" pearls refer to a color and not to the country of origin. Even if you find a great seller, take note...

Ebay seller Farm Direct Pearl? High quality pearls?

I have found that most pearl sellers on Ebay are selling cultured Chinese freshwater pearls, not glass or plastic imitations, however, it is VERY common to call freshwater pearls akoyas, Tahitians or South Sea pearls. In my opinion, the worse the pearls, the more likely they are to be called...

    Vintage Cultured Necklace? Help!

When I was new to cultured pearls, I kept thinking that some strands of un-nucleated freshwater pearls were natural because of the slight variations in shape, which akoyas don't have. That variation is still something I love about Chinese freshwater pearls because it does make them look more...

    Natural or Man-made? Please help!

If the pearls are from the same date as the clasp, they would have to be natural. However a natural necklace with all the pearls about the same size and shape as this would be so expensive, it should have a far better clasp. What the pearls look like is Chinese freshwater pearls. The slightly...

    Mysterious Blue "Pearl" ?

Do you all think it is a cultured pearl? The shape and setting reminds me of several 1950's unique American freshwater pearl pieces I have seen. I wouldn't rule that out, yet.

    new purchase from Catherine Cardellini

I love Catherine's taste in pearls. I would choose a dozen of her pieces easily. As for her neat knots, note that the thread she uses 99% of the time if not more, is Power Pro. That is why the neat knots. But neat knots is a big trade off for only two colors to knot with- white and moss green...

Natural Pearl Necklace Sells for World Auction Record $5.1 Million

I haven't been around and missed this. .My original thought was that the only place this many matching-and dark- pearls could come from was the New World. This place was loaded with pteria sterna and Margaritifera until the Spanish took it all and left the pearl beds ravished.. There was also a...
