Hi Miranda!
Welcome! I'm new, too. There are members around the world, and they are happy to educate and let you know honestly about pearls and safe places to buy them. I've learned a lot since I've been here. "Pearlescence", Wendy Graham is a respected senior member that I think you will enjoy. She has a website for her jewelery. pearlescence.co.uk You will find more about her in her member listing. I'm not sure exactly where she is in NW England.
I'm just learning how to use the private messaging system. Please p.m. me if you want to chat...:)
Ha ha, thanks! I've actually been trying to figure out how to do that...I'm not very technologically savvy, I think I may have it figured out...
Maiakity, you should add your etsy shop to your signature or your profile!
Thanks GemGeek! I've just seen this message here, still finding my way around the CP! What a lovely place and community this is, so much wisdom and encouragement! :)
Suitcases filled with pearls puts me in mind of how Jeremy Shepherd got his start. He was an airline attendant who figured out that there was treasure in China - hence the suitcases. I am happy you have joined us here on Pearl Guide. :)
Hi GemGeek,
I wrote a longer more personal missive, but I don't know how to reach you. Please would you give me suggestions?
There is a lot of bad information online, so having a grounding in the basics from a source you can trust, is a great start. Then, just seeing pearls every chance you get. If you can get to a trade show or NYC, you can see a lot of pearls. If you can take the pearls lab, that would be great, but you'll still need to see a lot of pearls, good and bad. :)
Hi GemGeek,
Thank you for messaging me! I've enjoyed learning from you over the past 7 months. I appreciate your artistic background as well as your teaching. I just wish you and the mentors were closer to me!
Whicker - I love your name! I hope you enjoy the pearl course. There is always so much to learn. :)
Thanks for visiting my albums-- I'm glad you liked what you saw. :)

As to your question about the earring jacket, I simply attached an open jump ring to the top link in the chain. I think it's 5mm or 6mm-- and the earring post simply goes through the ring. So easy to make-- try it! You just have to be sure to get chain that has links large enough that the jump ring can pass through.

BTW, although I used gold filled chain, you can use any chain-- even a secondhand gold plated or silver tone chain from a thrift shop. They won't tarnish, and because they hang free and don't rub on skin, the finish won't wear off, either. Use wire cutters to cut the chain to the size desired.
