I am new to the world of pearls and am looking for more info on crab pearls. How they are formed, can they be polished, how to care for? I bit into one on my anniversary and even though it's not as lustrous as some it has special meaning to me and I would like to preserve & make a necklace out of it. Shine it up too if possible without damaging it. Has only been one week and already it seems to have dried out a bit and is not as shiny. I also can hear what I believe pearl folks call "the nucleus" when I shake it. Very bizarre. The fact that this came out of my king crab leg and was cooked perhaps has ruined any chance of this pearl lasting? Can anyone give me some guidance, website links on science based or experience based crab pearl information? All would be welcome. I have tried a few times to upload some photos, not sure why it isn't working, but would be happy to send images along to anyone who can help.
:confused:Thanks so much!!
Welcome to the forum, Haylea! I see a few of you have joined that were referred by Wendy. I hope you will enjoy visiting here. :)

Thank you so much for the message, Anna. No rush. I'll enjoy your book when it arrives.

Sincerely,
Ruth
Hi Ruth,
I could not send you email messages because comcast dislikes new senders.
This is to let you know that I got your order, I duly noted your request and I will authograph it.
I use to ship in 48 hours ex. sat sun., so should be on wednesday latest. But as I am away 4 days (for the first time after the book is published), it will be thursday.
Thank you for understanding.
Kindest regards
Anna
Hi Fiona- I've been following your Tahitian thread (congrats! They're beautiful btw) and you mentioned the vendor has a store in Hong Kong. Would you mind telling me the name? I'm in HK now and am on the lookout for a reputable b&m here. Thanks! Allison
Good luck to you and your fishy pearl. If I were you, I'd wear it until someone wants to buy it right off of you.
This is just a shout out to M. , the cosmetics department sales associate I chatted with today at Nordstrom, who admired my Tahitians and said she wanted to get a strand for Christmas this year. You have come to the right place for a pearl education! :)

Be sure to visit the Show Us Your Pearls forum, and the Tahitian forum, and feel free to post any questions you may have!

If you don't see the strand you want at the vendor's sites, use Live Chat or phone them. They generally have more pearls than are shown on their sites.

I am trying to follow the sequence of Show Us Your Pearls forum - very new to site, so I am back and forth between dates and responses. Kind of I am lost:)

No idea of ‘the Tahitian forum’

Show Us Your Pearls forum, one expert showed pearls and presented info. She wrote that she was not promoting her pearls & does not sell here. From you response:
‘If you don't see the strand you want at the vendor's sites..’
Are members allowed to give shop info? I really need seller info. I live in NC, USA and NO GEM FAIRS.
Your expertise please! Is the term "mother of pearl bead" correct for nucleation? The insert is actually shell not just mother of pearl so I am questioning the term mother of pearl being used. Wouldn't it be more accurate to use the term "shell bead" nucleation? Thank you so much!
Hi! I tried to post a question twice yesterday but it hasn't shown up. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thank you!
Wow Bas, have just been looking at your album for Caitlin, such a variety of pearls that all look so good on you.

I have always loved your posts and it was great to see so many of your treasures in one go, hope you are going to keep your album up-dated - all your latest purchases from PP etc!

Thank you for helping keep a pearl fan happy!
