Otherwise I am watching Gilbert & Fretch whether they have any white fangs. They do have some golden pointy sticks that look more like dyed shell sticks than pearls, but at least they are a step in the right direction. If one does not bid too much, their stuff is good enough for beading projects.

PS how do you know what that coating is? And, Can I get some fw pearls with it? I have some pearls I'd like to put that stuff on, where can I get it? I'd put it on lots of things.......... .

From the looks of them, they have been coated with niobium vapor and then a goodly layer of high-gloss polyresin slathered on.

I am googling that -and niobium jewelry. Is it a process that can be done at home?

I don't think so. There are iridescent lacquers than can achieve a similar effect, albeit without the goldtone component.

If you rather work with the metal proper than coating beads with niobium oxide you can do it at home: http://pubs.acs.org/cen/80th/niobium.html

That is a different process, though.

Hi Caitlin,

These guys are good for fancy beads to sew onto purses. They write funny copy. There are not many sellers I would buy pearls from based on my trust in their expertise and all of them are based in Bahrain. For the rest I rely on my own judgement.
