Where to buy real pearls on internet?

Hi. First of all I would like to apologize for my english, I am from Chile and I do not speak english fluently so please excuse me for any mistakes.
Well, as I said, I am from Chile and I really want to buy my first pair of pearls, but I have been reading on this forum that there are a lot of places on internet that sell fake ones and I am scared of spending a big amount of money and getting something fake.
Could you please share with me internet sites where I can buy without having to worry about the pearls being fakes and hopefully that aren't too much expensive (I know that pearls are expensive but I have seen huge price differences)?

Please tell us more about what you are looking for? And perhaps roughly your budget. Do you prefer round pearls or baroque, large or small? If you look at the thread "What are you wearing today" you will be able to see lots of styles of pearls modeled.

If you don't have any cultured pearls at all, perhaps freshwater earrings and pendant would be good to start with, and less expensive than other types of pearls.
 
I am very intrested in Akoya pearls for what I have seen thay aren't as expensive as south sea but are very beautiful, do you think that is a good choice?
And since you mentioned the size I was hoping you could help me with that too, I want them for an everyday use, so if anyone has suggestions about the proper size I should choose I will be very grateful.

Pattye is right-- we can advise you better if you have some idea of what sort of pearls you are looking for.
Freshwater, Akoya, South Sea (white or golden), and Tahitians are the major categories but there are other kinds of pearls also.

You can spend a little or a lot; get small pearls or large; strands, earrings, bracelets, pendants.
 
I just realized that I dind't say that my interest is to buy stud earrings! Sorry. I replied the first comment with more specifications but I can't see it yet, I gess is being checked by a moderator.

Hi and welcome ! I think if you want them for everyday wear /work wear that 8mm -9mm would be good? If you are on the phone a lot then maybe smaller is better . It depends as well if you prefer sweet little earrings ..then even 5-6mm .

Also colours - creamy white, silvery white, rose/white ? Take a look at the threads that compare necklaces and you'll see the variations in the White shades. Any of the Internet companies mentioned here will be safe to deal with .

Will you be wanting to wear this first pair of pearl earrings as an every day earring, or likely only for special occasions? We ladies here tend to wear our pearls with everything :) Is there a store you might go to try on pearl studs, to get an idea of the sizes you're comfortable with? Our favorite online vendors, often mentioned here, will have better prices, selection and service by far, but it can be helpful to narrow down what you like and don't like by trying on pearls, or even bead earrings for size, especially when international shipping and returns are involved. Consider high quality freshwater pearl studs as well, especially if you will wear the earrings often. The best freshwater rival akoyas in luster, and are 100% nacre; sometimes not quite as round as akoyas though that isn't always noticeable on the ear.

For what I have been looking I think my favorites are the white ones with rose overtones, and I am planning on wearing as an every day earring.
I don't think there is a store where I can try the earrings because very little stores work with pearls here, and the ones that do are almost 2 hours away :(
Could you please left a link of these favorite online vendors you mentioned, I have been looking but haven't found them yet.
Do you think that I should go for freshwater then? I have been reading but really don't know much yet.

This might sound weird but you can easily see what size looks good on your ears by rolling chewing gum into little balls and measuring the mm size with a ruler. You can even stick them on your ears to try them on! Just don't tell anyone I told you to haha. :)
 
Freshwaters are usually the best buy but you have to be careful to make sure they're round if that matters to you because many of them aren't, especially the cheaper ones. You can ask or ask for photos to be emailed to you to choose from or see what the descriptions say of each company's different grades. Grades (AA, AAA, etc.) are not standard throughout the industry so each vendor may grade their pearls a bit differently.

I looked at the websites Sea Urchin mentioned and I noticed there is a big price difference between freshwater and akoya of the same size, I will leave the links of the two I was looking so you can maybe tell me a little bit more about this difference.

Yes, akoyas cost more than freshwaters.

Akoyas have a harder or sharper mirror luster. High quality freshwaters are nice too. Metallic freshwaters rival akoyas in luster.

Also, I'm sorry, I misspelled Wendy's shop (UK). It's "Pearlescence," not "Pearlessence." I just googled it and "Pearlessence" is a different pearl company that I've never heard of.

Now I've fixed it on my earlier post.
 
As an owner of metallic white pearls I have to say there is nothing quite like them!
