What Size Thread

I am working on restringing pearls for another friend (more practice) and the holes are larger on these pearls. Pearls are akoyas about 7.5-8 mm. Knots keep getting stuck inside pearl!!! I'm using Beader's Secret #30. What is a larger size? I have tried 3 strands (impossible) and 4 strands (knots are too big). Would appreciate assistance for the exprienced professionals. Thanks.

The #20 is heavier...I'd try that and see if it works.

Sometimes I have used 2 strands of #40, or #20 as the others have suggested So sorry you are having this problem!
