That's what I thought! Vendors that show natural abalone pearls usually have a few small specimens. I've never come across anything as hefty as this one.

I must admit, that oval double strand induced envy. I was also very fond of the twisted bracelet Hanalei Mom gave to her daughter.

Octavia thinks she should "borrow" it back!

Or is it the other way around? The Trailer Park Boys series is a mega-TV-hit in Canada, and with Eastern Canadians in particular. You can Google the episode. Needless to say, something really bad happens to the hand puppet, but not because of Bubbles.

Does Octavia talk? Out loud? I mean, so that others can hear her?

Well Conky wants to say hello to Octavia! He's not a bad looking guy, really. A little geeky, yes, and he does live in a swamp, but as a hand puppet he could be worse. Anyway, after something bad happens to him, he does get "resurrected" in another episode and is a lot cooler looking. I think he wears leather or something. Who knows, could be a match made in puppet heaven. Octavia may yet elope and then you will finally be free of the urge to buy every pearl in sight. Think of all the money you would save!

Okay, maybe it's me, but that's a creepy looking puppet.

I have been googling Octavia and actually I found quite a bit of information. I found out she is a pinctada gigas. This species, the largest known species of pinctada is quite rare and can only be found on tiny islands off the coast of Australia. This species has never been cultured so it only produces naturally formed pearls. These pearls are frequently huge perfectly round and flawless.

So here is my theory:
She made that pearl by herself and then falling in love with its size and luster, she just couldn?t eject it or give it up. So, not having a neck or pockets, she keeps it in her mouth. When the others of her species saw this pearl, they quickly named it the Queen of Pearls because it is the largest pearl of this species ever found.

She was on a world tour, to get new pearls for her court, but adopted Blaire because she knows Blaire is going to the top of the pearl world and the Octavia will have access to many pearls. She wishes to have many pearls in her court so she can lord it over them for size, shape and perfect skins. Since this species has no neck or pockets, they can hold a lot of pearls in the back of their throats, just out of sight.

As the mother of the Queen of Pearls, she deserves and demands the respect of a large court, so send over those pearls! Right. Now!

You'll be interested to know that Octavia visited Pearl Paradise today - it's still Monday here - and she helped me to pick out the pearls for my bracelet. She consented to my posting her photos, which will be up on Tuesday or Wednesday.

She was very pleased that no pearl came close to her Queen of Pearls.
