What are these pearls

Judging from the shape and color, they look like cultured Chinese freshwater pearls.
 
Did some research found these images of the drill holes of a single strand auctioned at $70,000. Very very similar to the strand I have.IMG_90391.jpgIMG_90411.jpg
 
Cultured pearls have onion layers like these?


Yes, because they are solid nacre (no bead inside)...just the same as natural pearls would be. However cultured freshwater pearls like those are quite inexpensive.

There are other photos of freshwaters either sanded in half with sand paper or crushed with a hammer.
