I would love to post photos. I will do this in a day or so. But can you buy south sea pearls from china? where else can you buy them? Pearl buying guide sounds interesting. is it available on Amazon?

Well, I'm probably not the best person to answer, but choose the little picture third from right in the reply box. Usually I reduce my photo by 1/2 first, or it might be too big to load. Not sure if that is the info you need.

It is asking me about URL! that is wierd. usually they ask you to browse and open the file from your hard drive! There is no URL for the images.

I tried to post the pictures as attachment but apparently did not work. Do you know how I post the pictures here? when I press the above icon it asks me about the pictures's URL instead of letting me browse my drive! any ideas?

Scroll down to the Manage Attachment button and click on it. When the box comes up it asks for a url but also has a choice to browse your computer. Use the browse to find your photo and click on it. It will show up in the box. Now click the upload button. When all is done, close the box and click on "Submit post" (or thread)

PS Jeremy's advice about visiting a pearl farm in China up above applies to you too. And Pattye's advice to go to Guaymas and visit Cortez Pearls is excellent. You will never see anything like the Cortez pearl operation in China. It is the pearl farm one dreams of visiting. Tahiti has some, too, like Kamoka Pearls

Very nice! About South Sea pearls, China does not produce South Sea pearls. Well, I shouldn't say the "don't." There is small operation on Hainan, but this is more of an experimental farm. The pearls produced to the South and often called South Sea are actually akoya.

Hi Moe,

Very lovely necklace and great luster on the baroque pearls! Where are these pearls coming from to be "natural" pearls? Do you have an idea where they were purchased and when, and approx what someone might have paid for them? Can you take a photo of the clasp? I am surprised to find no knotting between these pearls. The pearls look like cultured freshwater pearls to me, although I can't say for sure.

They were bought in the middle east. Source: Persian Gulf, natural. I cannot take any more pictures because I have sent them to GIA for evaluation. The price is up in the air since these are inherited long time ago. But what do you think?

I will let you know what GIA says about them. But according to their source, they were collected from the gulf near Bahrain in the middle of 20th century!!
