These pearls were purchased in 1981 at Victor in japan. These were hand picked and individual knotted I was wondering what type of pearls these are and size of pearls. They have been only worn a few times and have been kept in their silk pouch. The pearls are 17" long and all the same size and has a 18K clasp

Welcome, Dkunas,

Looks like you have a very pretty necklace of cultured akoyas. The silk thread doesn't look stretched at all as a result of being only worn a few times. The pearl size appears to be about 7mm. The 18k clasp has an engraved pattern below the pearl, adding to the beauty.

Pearls seem to be more on trend than ever this year~are you or someone in your family going to start wearing this strand more often?

It is difficult to see the true luster against the red cloth.

A quick GOOGLE suggests that Victor's Pearls was on the fifth floor of the Yuraka Building and had a shop in the International Arcade behind the Imperial Hotel circa 1970's.

These are probably mid-quality Akoya cultured pearls catering to the tourist market at a lower price point than Mikimotos.

Pearls like these would have been bought by visitors to Tokyo and highly prized by the lucky recipient back in the day.

Unfortunately their retail commercial value today is in the low hundreds at best, and the ideal use for them is to be retained as family heirlooms and worn on special occasions.
