I only ever knew about Girl with a Pearl Earring, but it seems he painted pearls often. I only found this out today when looking up information about the pearl in that most famous painting. His images are fascinating from both a painting technique standpoint and a pearl standpoint. So interesting!

That big pearl earring got around. Since he only had the one pearl, I'm surprised it was made into an earring and not a pendant. It's HUGE.

Some art historian think that it was not, in fact a pearl. A pearl that size would have been crazy expensive. I've seen theories that it was a fake or, in fact, metal. The metal guy went into all sorts of reflection analysis but I just can't buy it. That earring doesn't look metallic at all for me, specially not considering the period.
