I just bought these pearls at a garage sale this evening for a dollar. It was a jewelry lovers wet dream - gold, silver and pearls all for a dollar an item or baggie. Went through all of it in a dark garage, did not open the baggies, did not look for marks, spent $35 and got away quick because someone else was coming to look at the jewelry. Imagine my joy when I opened the baggie and pulled these out. ( As for the rest of the jewelry - only 3 clunkers - two pieces remain to be tested - everything else was as good or better than my first quick impression.)
The white gold fishhook clasp is the same as "Pearl necklace bought 40 years ago" thread in this forum and marked 14k followed by partial shape surrounding a dot.
The luster is beautiful, the nacre is thick, and only one pearl has a pit. They are baroque and measure about 7 mm on the long side. The odd thing is that only 4 pearls are knotted on one end and five on the other - all the pearls in the middle are not knotted. (I am going to knot them and undo the knot in the chain.) Most of the good jewelry at this sale was family jewelry (she did not care) so I assume that these belonged to her mother and would have been purchased sometime in the late 40's to early 60's.
I LOVE them.
So...baroque Akoyas?
