What do you all think of this strand? I wondered if this was a natural strand so I took a chance. What do you think? Would the rings near the holes be something of concern or is it just the outer nacre surface chipping from wear? Think they will come clean with a bath? I was told it had a platinum clasp but the metal streaks faded when tested with the PT acid. However, I've actually never tested platinum before so I need to read up to make sure I did not make any mistakes. I was in a hurry and did not test for gold, but I know many clasps were made with both platinum and gold, so maybe this was one of them. These photos were taken outside this afternoon, on a cloudy day. Any insight is appreciated. Thank you!

Wow, those sure look like they could be wild. Looking forward to seeing them all cleaned up!

Those look like they could be naturals. I bet they'll look amazing cleaned up and restrung on clean new cord.

Ooh, Amti, I am excited to see where this journey goes ... these are beautiful!

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping they are naturals as well. Such odd shapes, small sizes, very unique colors and luster. The pearls definitely have character! I think the clasp is 14k gold with the white being a platinum plating. I'm not sure if that was popular at one time or not, but I ran the tests again this afternoon and it isn't reacting 100% the way it should with platinum.

How exciting Amti! You have a very special strand there and I agree they are beautiful.

They could have very heavy nacre and be farmed, but they definitely look natural. They don't have the amount of wear that would reveal a bead at the back (barreling), but looking down drill holes with a loupe could tell you more. They are fairly round and the mix of colors is harmonious and pleasing - not to mention the luminous nacre. These factors boost their value. I wouldn't bother with a report unless you intend to sell them. (HAH!)

Good for you! I can't wait to see a neck shot. :)

They sure do look natural. Gorgeous strand and luster. The shapes are wonderful as well. I bet they will look even better once you get them cleaned up and restrung.

This is good stuff, old necklace probably restrung as some pearls are not barrel shaped like others, but fo me it's 100% natural pinctada sp pearls.
You could put some uv light to check for some pteria sp pearls.
The clasp, based from picture, is yellow and white gold.
