This is kind of a difficult question. Total output is typically reported in Jewellery News Asia, but it is only August. There is a lot of production left to come for 2008.

I found this LINK

headline:U.S. economy slams pearl sales for Man Sang

The US low dollar is blamed for most of it. Man Sang sales to the US have dropped off by about half

Man Sang is a giant pearl buyer/distributer of about 200 tons of pearls a year.

Business question from older posts above: Does the production/output of the pearls throughout the rest of the year refer to harvesting or selling? Since Jeremy makes monthly trips for more pearls, how does that reconcile with the "winter harvest" being the best one for pearls? (I know that I've read something similar to that on the forum.) So, how is the wonderful, high quality of the pearls throughout the rest of the year maintained? I bought a strand in June, not knowing anything about the "winter harvest" and they were GORGEOUS. I'm confused :confused:

And lastly, I'm wanting two more strands for Christmas presents; should I wait til closer to Christmas for the "winter harvest', or is it o.k. to spread out my purchases over the next couple of months, for budgeting's sake?

Most - if not all - pearls are treated. Bleaching is the minimum treatment. Then pearls have to be dried, sorted by size, by color, and eventually drilled and strung (freshwater & akoyas mainly). Wait! Is it summer already?

It does not matter when you buy them. It matters when they were harvested. Sometimes freshwater pearls are not immediately processed. Also, harvests can continue for months at a time.

Hello Shepherd,

Thank you all of your answers, but i know in 1998 pearl bazaar is 1,8 billion dolar on the world as a scientist , now what is this amount for you, only can you guess?
