Hi all,

Would really appreciate if some one would be able to tell me how much this natural pearl would go for in the market. I would also appreciate if some one would tell me what type of pearl im dealing with here? Its around 30mm in diameter, 9mm thick, has very high lustre, very clean, reflective and i know its a AAA.

can someone explain how a natural pearl would develop inside its shell if it was never found? The untransparency (milkyness) of most of the pearls known (found) worldwide, whats it made up of, if it was left inside the shell untouched how would it have developed. Size shows maturity inside a shell, what's the mutual size of most of the natural pearls found & known apart from the giants found.
You wouldnt believe me, but what i just showed, was found from the sea inside a shell by a native fisherman. These guys use spear guns and not nets, so they actually are skilled in long diving in ocean, thats how they live, and thats how one of these locals found this piece inside a shell, as he described it. On a closer look (not visible from the pictures), on the bottom side of the piece you would see clear marks of its contact with the tissue of the oyster/shell. That 1 told me it wasnt molded. The person (native) who got this thing didnt even know what it was, thought it was diamond at first but from his story, i gathered it wasnt diamond but related to pearl side of things. One more question, the nacre thing that is used to classify pearls, is it the milkyness of most pearls that makes it not transparent. Does size (maturity) affects that property??

That is not a pearl. No pearl ever looked like that. It is impossible. Pearl oysters can easily rid themselves of something like that, if it got got into a shell. Watch the video under my signature, made by a world renowned pearl scientist, a gent.

Pearls are made from calcium carbonate, not a transparent substance with conchiolin, a kind of binding protein. Together they give a luster.

To which natives are you referring? What part of the world? If it is Indonesia and related areas, that could be a mustika, a type of talisman claimed to be from animals, but usually made of silicone. But it was not found in a pearl oyster shell. Those spear fishers are not pearl divers. They are very poor people who love to make a buck off the unsuspecting.

You got tricked. Maybe you won't believe a woman, but the gents here can tell you the same thing. It looks like an old piece of glass. They often get that iridescent look, which is beautiful and you can make it into a piece of jewelry, but it isn't a pearl.

It looks as though the hucksters aren't even bothering to buy some freshwaters these days.
