I have been running around here for a couple of days. Went to Shenzhen yesterday and did some shopping. That is one crazy town. Good place for some things. Tailored clothes and the like. But you can also get some shoddy things like "MIKE" shoes. But it's fun. It's a short hop from Hong Kong. 45 min. train ride then immigration into China.
Today the big show begins. Looking forward to it. I have already met up with some friends and it should be interesting. I think some of the gloom of the past couple of years seems to be lifting and people feel pretty optimistic about the year ahead.

Hey Mike,

Wouldn't you *want* to pick up some "MIKE" shoes? ;-) Wish I could make it this year... have fun at the show (and enjoy the food!) And don't forget to show us what goodies you find :)

Just got to Hong Kong and got a sim card, I'm in touch with Mikeyy and happy to meet up with other PGers! My number is 67350585 for who's here :)

The PG'ers got together last night for dinner and a drink. Welcome to the group Silvia. Nice to meet a new pearl fan. Last day of the fair for me today then off again. A few new discoveries that I am sure you will all learn about soon.

I am at the airport about to fly home... :(

Had fun, as always. Nice to meet some new people - Peter and Josh Bazar, the lovely Silvia, Jacques and Pierre from Jewelmer as well as catching up with my usual friends - PG folk, favourite suppliers, and a bunch of other Australians that I seem to run into over there more often than not! Thank you for the company one and all!

Be back in September!!

Nerida, Mike, Jeremy and Josh, you made my Hong Kong trip a super-intense learning experience! I would really recommend any PGer to join, the company and the show itself are SO interesting.

I had the best time hanging out with you all and was really inspired! It is incredible how many little tricks and pieces of information I could pick up in walking around the show with you - Jeremy, the orient-revealing trick, Mike, good to observe you matching -
Nerida, I really appreciate your encouragement and suggestions, I will surely follow them! I will e-mail you soon :)
Josh, I'll wait for you in Shanghai then :)

I have done some shopping today, the prices were down already in some booths, I will post pictures! Got some really awesome baroque chinese (around 12-13 mm), really not sure what I'll do with them but they were too awesome to leave them there.

Thanks again for everything, looking forward to meeting you all again :)

Sounds like everyone had fun...any information on the dates of the show in September?

Hi Sheri - yes, always fun for this fair!

The September show is bigger and held in two venues with raw goods (ie, pearls, along with all gemstones, findings, silver etc) being exhibited at the AWE - the huge convention centre out near the airport, and finished jewellery being shown in the city convention centre - also absolutely massive. The AWE part is open from the 19 - 23rd of the month, and the city being open from the 21 through to the 25th. You really do need to do both sections - there is a very fast train that runs from the city out to the airport centre, and transport on this I think is either free or concessional for fair registrants.
Hope to see you there!
