Greetings! When I was 13 or so, I went on a vacation to Hawaii with my family. There I purchased what I remember to be a black lipped Oyster from a little kiosk on the beach. When they opened it, they seemed really surprised and enthuastic. After being looked over by multiple people they stated that this is a black pearl and it’s super rare! Is this true? Without light the pearl appears more white with a black center. But with like I see more of a peakcock orbit color if that’s correct, What exactly do I have here and is it worth getting appraised?

Hi Johnson6,
I'm not clear just which photo looks most like your pearl! What a fun souvenir of your Hawaiian trip. Tahitian pearls are readily available these days and the value of a single pearl will differ based on the quality. An appraisal will likely cost more than the value of your pearl. Have you thought about having your pearl set in a ring? The sentimental value of your pearl makes it priceless!
