Hi everyone. I am a newbie here and I do not know much about pearls.
But I just bought southsea super peacock pearls necklace from Bangkokpearls $4000
size: 9.1-11.1 mm , 17 inches length from this website so I need your commment , please.

Why don't you tell us a bit more about under what circumstances you bought your pearls? Were they sold to you as South Sea pearls? Because usually pearls that color would be Tahitian. Were you on vacation in Bangkok? Is it your first pearls necklace? What made you choose that particular color and strand? We want to know and share your joy

Please show us your own pictures of your new pearls and of course a neck shot too. We love real life pictures

Have you received the necklace? And if you do, what you think of it? The pearls look stunning from the picture, but the website seems to use stock image so the actual product might look different. If you want the experts here to judge the quality, pictures of the actual product might be better.

And is it normal to call Tahitian pearls as peacock South Sea pearls? It's not the first time I see such thing.... And the website also mentions that the source is Australia, but that can't be true, cmiiw.

Sorry that I did't give you much detail.
l live in Thailand. I bought it online (my frind invited me) and still not receive it yet.
I decited to brought it because they is the one of supplier of Bigs ( Bangkok Insitute of Gemological Sciences)

I will take*pictures of the actual product immediately to show you what it look like.

Is it necessary that South Sea pearls must have only light color?

South Sea pearls are from the Pinctada maxima shell, but many companies do use the term interchangeably for Tahitian pearls, which come from the Pinctada margaritifera shell. Often they will refer to Tahitian pearls as black South Sea pearls.

What is pictured, however, is a Tahitian strand. It isn't from Australia as advertised. It is from French Polynesia.

Hi, everyone. I just received the peacock pearl necklace today. I think it's pretty much a real Tahitian pearls . However, the Certificate of Authenticity indicated that it is from Australia.

I asked the lovely seller about this. She told me that nowaday, Austraria can culture black south sea pearls.

It's news for me too. Unless those are dyed South Sea pearls, I don't know how they can come from Australia.. Probably the experts can share something about this.

Anyway, the necklace looks stunning!

Last time I asked her. She told me that this is an 100% natural south sea peacock pearl not a dyed pearl, GIA can be check. As soon as I got it I tried to observe the various blamish . I found that there are some natural blamish. The color and sparkle not quite the same in each pearl. It look very natural for me.

Would you please tell me what the difference between natural pearls and dyed pearls?

It doesn't look like a dyed strand, but it is definitely not from Australia. It is most likely from French Polynesia, but could be from the Cook Islands. The chances are slim though.

Looks like Tahitians to me, I think the seller is just a little confused, she probably purchased them as Black South Sea pearls and just passed the info on to the customer.


They aren't from Australia but that doesn't matter, its a nice strand regardless of where it was cultured.

I agree with the others that it is most likely from Tahiti (the number of pearls harvested to produce one strand of color matched peacocks like that is staggering) but I'm surprised to hear everyone say that there are no Pinctada margaritifera pearls from Australia. As far as I know, there are several small farms there that farm our Tahitian species.
