Strack presents for AGTA at Tucson Gem Show

Hello, I have been told by a jeweller that Chinese put rusty cars in waters where pearls are growing, so that they turn pink. It is true or nonsense ? If true, is it considered as a treatment ?
Thanks everyone.

The fact that a few of ponds growing freshwater pearls in China may have a rusty car or two has nothing to do with the color of the pearls:D
No, it is not true.

blue book

Hi all,

just received a pdf copy of the blue book for pearls from the CIBJO.
I uploaded it for those who are interested:

I also bought the strack book, and another one, "Merveilleuses perles" by Fran?oise Cailles, a 100€ "directory" of famous pearls. I haven't opened it yet.

I also saw a recent book by Micheline Carino and Mario Monteforte, "UNE HISTOIRE MONDIALE DES PERLES ET DES NACRES" (a world history of pearls and nacre). It is based on French (Polynesian?) and Mexican archives. I don't think the book has been translated in English. Here's the cover: http://www.editions-harmattan.fr/catalogue/couv/2747597520r.jpg
and the page to the abstract (French): http://www.editions-harmattan.fr/index.asp?navig=catalogue&obj=livre&no=20940 Surprisingly, that book is only 22,5€.

I also got a DVD on Tahitian pearls and a copy of the French gemmological association's magazine on pearls for free. :)

You probably won't see me much on the board for the coming days :D
