Something big for Tahitian pearl lovers

We were recently commissioned to do a large strand of Tahitian pearls BEFORE the holiday. That's not a lot of time to put something like a 15 mm strand together. It is becoming so difficult to get large, clean pearls in this size.

Anyway, since these are so rare to see these days ... photo below!

What is the reason why for Tahiti pearls, the biggest are not so shiny than smaller ones( I mean most of the time)?

The smaller ones are always "first-growth", from the first implantation. When they are harvested, they are replaced with a bigger bead. The older the mollusk gets, the less lustrous the nacre tends to be. Those first little babies are like high-beam headlights!

One last photo before the strand wings it way over the Atlantic to its new owner. This one is a true beauty - one of the largest Tahitian strands (at least of this grade) we've ever done.

Those really are amazing, so round, and smooth. How long is it? 28 pearls plus hidden clasp? 29 pearls, a little over 17"?

We aren't putting a clasp on it. It is going to a wholesale customer. 29 pearls and it will string out at about 18 inches.

Wow, that is a great piece. I like the strong contrast between light and dark pearls. That aquamarine, bluish pearl near the light pistachio is amazing.
