They look like the early Chinese freshwater "rice krispie" pearls, but I've never seen them undrilled. Do your pearls have a drill hole? Where did you get them?

Edit: never mind, I just saw the drill holes.
Edit, apparently what I saw wasn't a drill hole!

I second Pattye. Please tell us what you know about them. I can't even tell how large they are. What is the container? Is it watch or compass-sized?

The pearls have never been drilled,

This pearls have been acquired in old French town of (baja california)

Eh? Did you complete that last sentence? An old French town in Baja? From the looks they could be Biwa pearls which are cultured freshwater pearls from Japan going back to the 30's. Or if from the 80's or so,they could be early Chinese fw pearls.

More likely Biwas than the early Chinese freshwaters. The sizes are larger than the Chinese rice crispies.

But that is a total guess.

The luster is exceptional and seems to have an iridescence. In person do you see plays of color on the surface? Like Caitlin, I would lean toward Biwa pearls also more than early Chinese freshwater. That flattened shape would more likely be Biwa. This number of pearls in similar size and shape could indicate these are cultured pearls, rather than naturals. A Mystery~
