some giant mutant bead nucleated CFP's

I understood Jeremy's article to be referring to solid nacre pearls and that the sizing reduction was due to greed. If these are bead nucleated then the sizing would be less of a surprise since you could start with a larger bead and achieve a nice pearl with a short time in the water. I guess this goes back to the greed issue since if you can cut down the time to harvest and still get a large pearl you might be able to increase your number of harvests per unit of time thus upping your yield. Given the $120K price tag it seams like these rounds are still pretty rare. Hopefully we still have some time left while solid nacre pearls are still available. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

I hammered some 10-11mm bead nucleated, they all had 6mm nucleii inside.

Stephen,
I was actually referring to this quote in Jeremy's article,"Today's best freshwater pearls rival the beauty of a fine Akoya or South Sea strand, yet they are solid nacre and cost a mere fraction of their beaded rivals." The reason that I'm upset is because I prefer solid nacre pearls.

DFrey,
I hope you are right and that those pearls are drop shape, even slightly, because they look pretty round on my monitor! :D

We need the laser pointer there to check for the nucleus! Those are gorgeous pearls, whether with or without beads. At the price, it won't be a staple in anybody's wardrobe, though (at least not yet).

Hi everyone,

No need for hammers, or lasers. This vendor was very proudly displaying an enormous range of bead nukes - all huge - and with quality varying from dreadful, dyed jobs to this one. Very definitely bead nuked.

Out of mine for sure at 120k!!! :(

Ah well, it costs nothing to dream! :D

DK :)

Lovely as they are, I still prefer tissue nucleated only and am happy to get them while they are still around in larger sizes!
