Wanted to share these photos I just took...these are three bead-nuked CFP's I bought at San Mateo Intergem a few months back. I set a couple with very simple wire-wrapped bails; the other multicolor one is drilled all the way through the top "lobe", to be incorporated into a necklace. I couldn't resist the colors, luster, wild shape, and size, of course. The pearls range from 1-1/4" to 1-3/8" (32mm to 35mm) in length...

Sheri, those are faboo! Earrings and a pendant! ;)

Wow, I never even thought of the earring possibility, but that could be rather dramatic!~they really are quite enormous. On the other hand, my neck has been likened to that of a giraffe, so they would fit me just fine!:D

Sounds like they would be perfect as earrings for you Sheri. After all, you have the pearls-that-want-to-be-hands as earrings, too, don't you?
Nice pearls. Very pretty colours. I will find the photos of the perfectly perfectly spherical bead nukes that I saw in HK and post here later maybe? Bead nukes are definitely getting better.

I know you could find a way to work them into a unified set. In fact, if you do, take your time. I love your work! ;)

DROOL--those are wonderful sizes, shapes, colors! Will be great fun to see the finished product!

Oh WOW what fun shapes. Like the coloring on them as well.

Iridescent popcorn - love them!

Yes, Nerida, I'd love to see those photos - as well as treasures you picked up at the show. Nothing like some pretty pearl pictures to brighten one's otherwise mundane day.

Those are great Sheri!
Question? I've been reading a lot about pearls fading yet with PP pearls have never experienced this. Do you think your beautiful pearls will stay like that for years?
I hope they do, they are wonderful.

Sheri,
Gorgeous pearls. I'm drooling over the bottom left one in particular
... lovely colors!

Hopefully I can upload these pics even with slower broadband. These are bead nuc CFWP at the Hong Kong show. Given that the HK thread just disintegrated into hilarity, this seems the right place for these pics now.

This vendor had some gorgeous strands of bead nucs, but these were done as a demonstration only. There was a price on them - $120K - with slightly lesser quality strands between $5K and $8K. These pearls range from about 14.2mm through to over 16mm.

Sorry about the quality of the photos - taken with my phone, with the vendor's permission - but trying to get away from the very bright lights overhanging every booth was a nightmare..

See - no tails, no bumps...

Nerida,
I'm shocked! WOW! Are you certain those are bead nucleated? If they are, Jeremy may have to revise the article he just wrote in the thread "Staying in the LOOP". I am hoping that they are not bead nucleated. :(

Those tailless pearls certainly give one pause....can they really have beads in them?

Wow ! Sheri,
The lustre of that pearl bottom left.......

I think the color will stay on my popcorn monsters, Barbie, as the colors are natural.

Nerida, those huge round bead-nukes are AMAZING. Gorgeous colors and amazing smooth mirror luster.

Given the size (up to 16mm), how can they NOT have beads inside? Seems to me it would take a long, long time to build up that size pearl without a nucleus, though I certainly have no expertise in this area. I just know what's pretty!

I understood Jeremy's article to be referring to solid nacre pearls and that the sizing reduction was due to greed. If these are bead nucleated then the sizing would be less of a surprise since you could start with a larger bead and achieve a nice pearl with a short time in the water. I guess this goes back to the greed issue since if you can cut down the time to harvest and still get a large pearl you might be able to increase your number of harvests per unit of time thus upping your yield. Given the $120K price tag it seams like these rounds are still pretty rare. Hopefully we still have some time left while solid nacre pearls are still available. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

The pearls in that you show in the strand seem to be slightly drop shaped. Sarah at Kojima pearls has a single 11.5 mm drop that is listed as being bead nucleated. Never would have guessed by looking at it.
