I bought some rosebud pearls from this vendor and they arrived the other day. I won't have time tomorrow for photos, but will try to post some on Wednesday.

I also ordered some FW black strands which have yet to arrive.

Shipping costs are high, but strand costs are low. It all evens out in the end.

A couple of days ago I finally made a rope out of the multicolor strands I received from them. My first rope and whew my hands were tired! I'll post a picture when the sun comes out again (it's Oregon ). I also received some dyed coin pearls with great luster I made into a set. Will post pics of those as well. I've been happy with everything I've gotten from the and find I peruse their store everyday!

I still haven't quite figure out what "primordial pearls" are!!

(I think I'm developing a pearl problem!!!)

I think perhaps "primordial" is their term to describe the "pondslime" effect in coloration. I find the term somewhat intriquing, in any event...

I got my 10-11mm blue-blacks last week. I think they are the same ones that MaryD got (they are a tad darker in person). Big, lovely color, shiny, off-round, not very clean. They are about what I expected, and will make for some fun necklaces.

The pond slime pearls- I got about 8 strands from Sarah several years ago. They have beige and coppery and other warm colors. I love them!

hehe yes
here they are. until inspiration strikes (and until after my exams are done...), the lowly beads are being worn sans clasp, held in place with ribbon. I might try to learn to knot, they can be my practice pearls.

Anyway, I finally got around to taking pictures of the necklaces I made out of the pearls I got from Lei Family Jewelry that I started the thread about. The first two are of the rope I made from the bread, I mean button, pearls. It's my first rope and it's a smidge over 68 inches. I tried some different metallic beads with it to dress it up but in the end just went with the pearls because I like the colors so much.

The second are of the dyed baroque coin pearls. I've gotten a lot of compliments on those -- they have great luster but it's hard to see from the photos.

The final pics are from pearls I bought at the Intergem recently in VA. It's hard to pick up the luster and color in the photo though.

I'm hoping to make a black/peacock rope next but have to find some first. I'm hoping John Tu will be at the GemFaire in Eugene, OR in July to get some. I'm anxiously waiting for it!

So here's a question for all of you lowly beaders -- do you ever get your creations appraised? I'm wondering what is worth having appraised and what is not. When I make something inexpensively and then I see something similar in a store for a ridiculously high price, I have to wonder. Kate

Hi Kate, they are all very nice. The gold coin pearls look metallic on my screen. I like the rope the most due to its colors (more lavender, pink, and less white). I envy those on the west coast who gets to purchase from John Tu. He doesn't come out my way.

Those are lovely! And thanks for modeling! You've got some beauties there! Not many jewelry appraisers are great at pearls, because there have been so many changes in fw, etc in the last 15 or so years, and at a likely cost of $75 or more per item you would need to decide if it was worth it.

Are you positive the gold coins are dyed? They are stunning! Some coins have really intense colors.
