Re-stringing Bracelet

Why don't you just get the right sized thread 30#. You will always have it and it is useful thread for many things.

The double and triple kotiing might be why it stretched. You need to separate the two thread and pull tight, tight, tight. I always check my knot by holding the ends in my hands and pull steady but hard. Any looseness in the knot will reveal itself BEFORE you knot the next pearl.

Believe me I have done many pieces over and over before I got all the kinks out and the gimp exactly right, etc. Powerpro does let you pull all the kinks out easily, but you must test each knot before continuing. If you keep knotting other things, your hands will automatically learn how to do everything tight with little concentration.

You are a champ to learn this. I am so proud of you!

What a fantastic thread, so inspiring to see time and knowledge given and shared so readily.
Love the bracelet, such a good idea, love the newly strung exotics on Pearl Dreams' neck.
Wonder if my husband could be inspired, wouldn't that be great?

Hi
I put silver gimp on my test bracelet. I never noticed the gimp, so I think it was fine. I have photos up but they were years ago...

I had quite the surprise yesterday evening!

My husband asked, "Was there any mail?" I had completely forgotten to bring it in. He stepped out to get it, and came back with a box.

Husband: "You've got something from Pearl Paradise."

Me: "Must be a mistake, I didn't order anything-- maybe they sent me someone else's order by accident? Better find out what it is."

Well, what a surprise I had!

DwightSchrute sent me this gorgeous white metallic half-drilled Freshadama as a "thank you" for teaching him how to restring his Freshadamas! I was speechless!

It is even more lustrous than my white metallic strand, which is astonishing. And so round that I had a hard time photographing it as it kept rolling away! It's 7-7.5mm, and I'm shopping now for a ring mounting. I found an adorable pearl ring online and have messaged the seller to see if they can sell the ring sans pearl, so my husband can mount this one instead. We shall see what they say.

More photos!

And in my hand:

I am thrilled to pieces! Thanks, DwightSchrute!

Wow! Shows that it pays to be helpful :) Thank you, Dwight, for confirming that!

Absolutely above and beyond, both PearlDreams and Dwight! What a gorgeous pearl!

So does your spouse work in jewelry? Since he could set the pearl into a ring?

He is a hobbyist, not in the trade. But he's good at it. Enough of a perfectionist that I think it would not be practical for him to make a career of it, except maybe to earn a bit of extra money during retirement.

I heard back from the vendor; the particular ring I admired does not come without the Akoya pearl mounted on it.
Can anyone tell me, would I be able to get the pearl off using Attack? I finally got a bottle of it. If so, I might want to buy it anyway.

Hi Pearl Dreams,

Our Australian friend with the SSP farm wrote a post at some point about how to remove a pearl from a setting - something about boiling water and a sieve... Sorry, I don't have time to search for it...

Thanks, Karin. I think the boiling water might damage the pearl being removed, though. I could see doing that if the pearl were being removed because it was damaged and had no value, but in this case it's a new pearl that could have a future use.

Well, oops, the post disappeared.

PD,

How fortunate to have such a handy hobbiest husband! You two make a great pair!

I have used attack before, it seems safe on pearls. I think I used it because Jeremy used it, lol. It is quite fume-y, lots of cautions. I cleaned the findings and pearl very well after. Rio Grande sells it, you might want to double check with them. I used a very small jar with a tight lid. It took about 3 days.

Pearldreams, I applaud you for being helpful and volunteering to teach an eager student. Dwight, I applaud you for being such a devoted husband, willing to pick up a skill to make his wife a durable medical bracelet. That is such a thoughtful and beautiful thank you gift from Dwight. I agree with Wendy...style.

I've used Attack many times to remove pearls from findings or removing glue from end pearls of a strand that was knotted with silk. Put the pearl and Attack in in a covered plastic container. Most of the time, glue comes out within 24 - 48 hours in my case.

What goes round comes round, you obviously deserve your surprise pearl in the post. I'm very impressed with both teacher and student, not to mention how much it helps us all to read the tutorial. I'm sorry I am not from your home towns! Thank you for sharing.
