Quahog ? If any one has suggestions on best lighting and back ground for pics id love to hear it Thankx Everybody

I hope I haven't offended any one ? Everything I know about gems I've learned in the last month. I bought a large collection of rocks, gems ,Simi gems,mineral s and fossils . I understand that its more likely for me to become president then surviving a daily assignation attempt for four years . Then me to have 15 quahog pearls fall in my hands. Lol Me being unable to see a core and them being purple is the only reason I looked into quahog. And because of how I bought them I really can't help with much info. Thanks for even looking at them

Hi there @Robby Russell and welcome to our forum.
Nice catch with these Quahog pearls. The light colored ones seem well photographed, but the dark ones seem to have too much light, which may make them look much darker and have them lose their more subtle features.
You can try and photographing these yet again, but under a less harsh light...maybe under indirect sunlight, such as next to a window but not when the sun is entering through it.

Put them on a white paper towel, outside, but in the shade. So natural, but indirect light. That's always the best lighting for any pearls.

I don't see Quahog pearls here. Three could be clam pearls, but I'd need to see additional photos. The others are beads.

I agree with Jeremy. The dark ones...I just could not see them as pearls at all, but I believed the photos were so bad that they just didn't seem like pearls. Those Quahog samples shared by Jeremy are what we all understand as Quahog pearls.

My thoughts exactly. The three white pieces may be tridacna pearls, but the purple and tan are beads.

Are you located in Europe, those should be examinated, to get sure.

I know that lots of experience is the BEST way to Identify different pearls....but is there postings to Identify characteristics of Akoya, Tahtians, Quahog Etc. versus Freshwater. I searched this forum and must be putting in the wrong terms.

You are correct in the context that differentiation is highly subjective. Objective differentiation is much more complex, even for scientists in those fields. Unravelling genetic codes (DNA) and micro chemical analysis have limitations, thus greater burdens are in place to be conclusive.
